Question:
Resident Shield Alert Virus... Ugh?

This computer hasn't been taken care of well, so it's only natural that when I log on, I get this stupid thing. D:

I googled it and installed the Spyware Doctor (Which ridiculously said this computer had 502 *minor, albeit* infections, along with 6 bad ones. However, to get rid of them, I had to pay 30$ I don't have. So that's out.

Also, once I installed Spyware Doctor, I got a BSoD. Once I started the computer back up, the Resident Shield Alert pop-up stopped... popping up. So I don't know what's up with that, but I assume it's still lurking...

I have AVG (obviously, since RSA is an impersonation of AVG) so I'm curious if anyone knows of a... better free virus-stopping program, AVG has let us down a few too many times. Is Norton any good, is there one better?

If I think of anything else, or if you want me to be more specific about anything, just ask. And I'm also terrified to try and manually remove this virus, obviously... I'm not great with computers, and I heard trying and slipping a little can really damage it. Unless the instructions are very, very simple.

No, Norton is terrible. don't get it except you're waiting for many, many extra issues than it solves, alongside with costing money. AVAST and AVG the two artwork wonders. i'm sorry which you had worry with AVG, nonetheless. I even have yet to experience any.
