I have tried all of the suggestions that I was able to google and it did not help. My computer has been running slow for a while. I am using Defender Pro as my virus protection and spyware protection. I recently added their "toolbox" option and I have gotten my computer to work much faster but I am not convinced that my Dr. Watson problem is gone for good. I understand that it is a windows program that has become infected with a trojan but none of the data that I can find tells you how to permanately get rid of the problem. Can anyone help? I am not as computer savy as some people but I think I know enough about these things to get myself in trouble. Thank you in advance for your answers.

Go to bleepingcomputer.com for help with this. You will need to register and then fill out a "hijack this log". There is a tutorial on the site about making your log. Once you do that, I guarantee you will have expert help on your side. I have solved every single problem that I have ever had (and prevented many more) with my pc due to bleeping computer.

BTW were you running Dr. Watson in safe mode? You probably were but just making sure.

The good Doctor is a Microsoft employee. He is not a virus, a spyware or any other malware. He wears a white hat.

"Dr. Watson for Windows is a program error debugger that gathers information about your computer when an error (or user-mode fault) occurs with a program. Technical support groups can use the information that Dr. Watson obtains and logs to diagnose a program error. When an error is detected, Dr. Watson creates a text file (Drwtsn32.log) that can be delivered to support personnel by the method they prefer..."

Sometimes the Doctor will show up unexpectedly, then dissapear just as quickly and not show his face again for months and months.

I would not be concerned unless Dr. Watson starts to appear on a regular basis. If he does then you have serious issues with your Windows operating system. Often a reformat and complete re-install of Windows is needed.

Good luck.

Try SuperAntiSpyware. scan in safe mode. Turn off the system restore first re boot press f8 as soon as the comp re boots scan in safe mode get rid of any junk it finds. Reboot then turn your system restore back on , do a check to see if its gone. Other wise I agree with a previous answer re format the computer. I hope that helps.

One solution is to format and reinstall.

Another option is to go over to Linux and test out an Ubuntu LiveCD or something.

You can go to download.com to download the Ad-Aware & Spybot. They are free and pretty good.
