The Blue Screen of Death (also known as a stop error, BSOD, bluescreen, or Blue Screen of Doom) is an error screen displayed by some operating systems, most notably Microsoft Windows, after encountering a critical system error which can cause the system to shut down, to prevent damage.

Bluescreens on NT-based Windows systems can be caused by poorly written device drivers or malfunctioning hardware. In the Win9x era, incompatible DLLs or bugs in the kernel of the operating system could also cause bluescreens.

Bluescreens can also be caused by physical faults such as faulty memory, power supply issues, overheating of components, or hardware running beyond its specification limits. Bluescreens have been present in all Windows-based operating systems since Windows 3.1; earlier, OS/2 and MS-DOS suffered the Black Screen of Death, and early builds of Windows Vista displayed the Red Screen of Death after a boot loader error.

The term "Blue Screen of Death" originated during OS/2 pre-release development activities at Lattice Inc, the makers of an early Windows and OS/2 C compiler. During porting of Lattice's other tools, developers encountered the stop screen when NULL pointers were dereferenced either in application code or when unexpectedly passed into system API calls. During reviews of progress and feedback to IBM Austin, the developers described the stop screen as the Blue Screen of Death to denote the screen and the finality of the experience

That blue screen is a sure sign of a problem. I get a few error messages too. But my Computer was attacked. I was Reading some questions and answers and clicked on a link and a rat ran across my screen, then a huge squirrel .. then offshore pop up's from Belgium and montreal.

Then pop ups said click on this site to fix your problem .. I did not. I have a brother who does remote pc repairs, the pc was so messed up i almost could not email my brother to help me.

I got through to him and it was such a bad virus it took him a few hours to fix it.

He is really smart.. Now i have a clean and great running pc.

Any how if you're interested in him to check it out his website is http://logonfixit.com/ Some hackers are getting into your pc and when you click on the links it opens the virus, and then they send messages for you to pay to fix what they messed up.. I was smart enough no to use them to clean up what they sent. I'm lucky to have a computer repair man for a brother. He fixes it remotely

i agree with axeman.. the blue screen is never good.

but to me it sounds like ur computer is overloaded..have u done a disk cleanup and/or disk defragment lately? do that first and then antivirus scan and then a spyware scan and restart. i do think that when u download something but it did not actually do it sounds fishy ..just make sure to update ur computer and antivirus and patches just incase.

it sounds pretty serious my man, blue screen is never good.

If you still have a hold of your operating system disc, i would back up files you need to keep and re-install, it doesnt take that long and after you basically have a brand new computer.

hope this helps.

That blue screen could point to a hardware error. Maybe even the HD.

Check for any updated drivers for your computer. If you get that blue screen again write down the error then on the next reboot do a search for that error usually something along the line of 0xD100000B or something like that you can usually get a pretty decent idea of what caused it. Also look at your application/system event logs for something strange.
