You can trace IP address and email sender by some of the IP tools from site below:

http://www.ipaddresslocation.org/email-tracking/email-header.php (this will identify IP address from sender email)

http://www.ipaddresslocation.org/ip-address-locator.php (this will find all information's if you have IP address)

sure and no. by tracing your IP address all they'd get is the region of the internet provider service (ISP) that has rights to that address. So while you're making use of a close-by basically ISP then they'd get an thought of the place you reside. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, this is the place the direction ends for a classic citizen. yet while a regulation enforcement agent has some reason of looking you, they'd hint you by your IP address. They do a similar project as formerly and hint what ISP gave out the address, then they ask for the ISP's documents and locate out who replaced into making use of the address on the time they are searching for.

There are basicly two steps involved in the process of tracking an email : find the IP address in the email header section and then look up the location of the IP address. For Google, Yohoo, and Outlook Express, Log into your account and open the email in question. Click on the down arrow that's to the right of the Reply link. Choose Show Orginal from the list. Now here is the technical part, You need to look for the lines of text that start with "Received :From". It might be easier to press Cntrl+F and perform a search for that phase. You'll notice that there are several Received From's in th messenger header. This is because the messege header contains the IP addresses of all of the servers involved in routing that email to you. To find the first computer that originally sent the email, you'll have to find the Received From that's farthest DOWN. Then its routed to different ISP servers and so on and so forth till it got to your email server. In Yahoo Mail Beta : log into your accouont and open the email( if you're using Yahoo Mail Beta with theh new preview interface, make sure you double - click on the email so that it opens in a new tab) at the top right, you'll see there is a drop-down option where Standard Header is selected by default., Click on it and choose Full Header. Again you will see the same information as before, just in a different window. for Microsoft Outlook : Open the email in Outlook by double-clicking on it, Go to View at the top menu ( the menu options for the email, not the main Outlook window) and choose Options. You'll get a dialog box where you can set the messege options and at th bottom you'll see the Internet Headers box. For some silly reason, the box is very small and you have to scroll a lot, so it's best to simply copy and paste the text into NotePad to view it more easily. Now that you have the originating IP address , You can perform a location lookup on the IP address , My favorites are IP2Location and GeoBytes IP Locator, GeoBytes will give you a big map along with a bunch of other information about the location itself. IP2Location also gave me the same information pretty much, Including the ISP. If you want more information, You can do a WHOIS Database Search. This will give you information on who hosts that IP address and their registration information. You can always contact them to try and find more information on that particular IP address. Good Luck Hope this helps

You can't trace an IP address back to the person that uses it - only to their ISP. And you'll need to know the exact time they had that particular IP address, as they may have a dynamically changing IP address. And, don't take it into your own hands - just forward the email onto Ebay.

There's a possibility it could be phishing also to steal your details - but you didn't mention any link in the email. If there is one, don't click it.

You can't get the name of the person without a warrant. You can, however, do a whois search and find the ISP. This way, you can find out where the person sent the email from. At the very least, you'll be able to find out what country the machine was located in. Of course, the person who initiated the request may not be physically located in that country; the machine that made the request could have been part of a botnet. So if, for instance, the IP address belongs to some ISP in Germany, the attacker may actually be in, say, The Netherlands accessing the ISP via SSH or remote login.

This is not someone trying to change your address or use your account. they are trying to get you to rely and give them all your personal information. I hope you did not click the ebay link to report this. you can only trace the IP address to the owner, which will be the issuing ISP. This could be in another town. If you send a copy of the email along with a copy of the full headers to abuse@ your mail provider they may be able to take action on this.

This is just something called a Phishing email.

Whoever sent you this email sends the exact same email out to thousands of people.

The email didn't come from Ebay. It came from a scammer. They put things like "your account is locked" or "your account is going to be disabled" so that you will panic and then click on the link in the email to stop this happening.

They send this email out with a link in it and ask you to click on the link to go to the "Ebay" web site.

Actually, then link goes to the scammers web site that is made to look exactly like Ebay. A fake Ebay web site.

I really hope you haven't clicked on the link and gone to the scammers "Ebay" web site. If you have, then the scammers will now probably have your username/password.

Never click on a link from anyone. Ebay never sends out emails asking you to confirm your details or password.

To your original question, tracing the IP address is going to be a waste of time. The people that send these emails are very clever and they will already have thought of that.

It's likely the email was sent from a hacked computer and not one owned by the scammer.

Have a look at this. Enter your own IP address (it gives it to you) to trace. You will then see its a job for experts. Mine shows I live over 100 miles from where I actually am. Good Luck

use whois to identify the owner of the ip address then contact them informing them of illegal or fraudulent use by one of their users the ip address will drill down to the locale of the originator. Just type whois into search engine various sites will allow you to check ip.

Hope this helps
