I got an email from service@paypal.com about a password change?

I got an email stating that my password was changed and that if I did not change it my self, I should contact them by phone. I've never received an email asking me to call them; however I did not change my password. On the other hand, I did link my phone and add a pin # several hours prior to the email notification.

When I checked my account, my password did not change and the password I had prior to the email worked. What is going on? The email looked legitimate and suspicious at the same time.

I did not call the phone # as I suspect that the email is either fraudulent or accidental. Has anyone else experienced this before?

It's a phishing email, my friend.

They either want you to click on a link to an unreal PayPal website, then enter your ID and password so that it can be used to purchase goods without your say so, or to phone a number that they provide, where someone on the other end of the line will claim to be working for PayPal and then request you to give your present ID and password so that they can change it for you.

It IS fraudulent, and yes, I have received countless numbers of similar emails.

Just bin it/delete it.

It was probably a fake email with a phone number that you would not be expected to recognise. If you phoned to change your password, you would be asked for your existing one thus giving the perpetrators access to your account.

Well documented phishing scam. Ignore it. Or, I believe there is a link at Pay Pal where you can forward that email for them to investigate. That's what I would do.
