My Norton 2005 or something like that is going to run out of date and Norton 360 sound like what I need. I have AVG so please don't say anything about that. I was just wondering is there any problems with it or using it or anything like that?

Norton 360 is a cracking application for keeping your system safe. No issues really - go for it.

I just upgraded to Norton 360. I like it, it's very thorough in what it looks for (it'll even tell you if your passwords are secure enough). My 2006 was about to expire and I spent the extra couple bucks and upgraded, and I havent' regreted it since. I am running XP though, so i don't know how it runs on Vista.

I dont think you should spend money on a resource hog, especially when everything you need is free. You already have AVG, so you dont need anti-virus software. You can use Spybot S&D and/or AdAware for spyware, ZoneAlarm Free Firewall, and CCleaner to get rid of garbage files.

AVG Antivirus - Free Antivirus Software

(CNET: "AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition is the most popular free solution available at no cost to home users and provides the high level of detection capability that millions of users around the world trust to protect their computers.")

Ad-Aware - Free Antispyware Software

(CNET: "One of the first applications built to find and remove adware and spyware, Ad-Aware 2007's excellent reputation is well-justified.")

Spybot Search&Destroy - Free Antispyware/Antitrojan Software

Some REALLY great features of Spybot Search&Destroy: Its ability to help your PC block known spyware/hijacker sites with Immunize feature, a Secure Shredder for truly removing files from your PC, and Startup, which allows you to view the files starting with Windows.

SuperAntiSpyware

SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition is 100% Free and will detect and remove thousands of Spyware, Adware, Malware, Trojans, KeyLoggers, Dialers, Hi-Jackers, and Worms. SUPERAntiSpyware features many unique and powerful technologies and removes spyware threats that other applications fail to remove.

Zone Alarm

ZoneAlarm is designed to protect your DSL- or cable-connected PC from hackers. This program includes four interlocking security services: a firewall, an application control, an Internet lock, and Zones. The firewall controls the door to your computer and allows only traffic you understand and initiate. The Internet lock blocks Internet traffic while your computer is unattended or while you're not using the Internet, and it can be activated automatically with your computer's screensaver or after a set period of inactivity. Zones monitor all activity on your computer and alert you when a new application attempts to access the Internet. Version 7.0.362 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

ZoneAlarm is free for individual and not-for-profit charitable entity use (excluding governmental entities and educational institutions). Advanced features are available.

CCleaner is a system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It's fast (normally taking less that a second to run). It cleans: Internet Explorer (Temporary files, URL history, cookies, Autocomplete form history, index.dat); Firefox (Temporary files, URL history, cookies, download history); Windows (Recycle Bin, Recent Documents, Temporary files, and Log files); Registry cleaner (Advanced features to remove unused and old entries, including File Extensions, ActiveX Controls, ClassIDs, ProgIDs, Uninstallers, Shared DLLs, Fonts, Help Files, Application Paths, Icons, and Invalid Shortcuts. So comes with a comprehensive backup feature.)

You can do a lot better than Nortons. The benchmark product nowadays is Kaspersky.

I use to use Norton. I recommend you do not use Norton. User reviews (see below ) rates Norton 360 at only 5.8 out of10 possible points. Norton is a resource hog and system problems related to it are typical.

Note if a scan detects a problem but is unable to remove, start the computer in safe mode with the internet line disconnected and run a full scan.

In severe cases your system restore files will also be infected. In these cases you will need to turn off system restore to prevent malware hiding in the system restore files and reinfecting the computer during removal or during a future system restore. Turning off system restore deletes the system restore files.

Right click on "my computer"> Properties > System Restore Tab > Check box turn of system restore

After the malware is removed turn on system restore.
