I ran a program in safe mode that removed 3 files that were corrupting my system but I've had no luck restoring the sound on my computer. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Update your soundcard driver. It's possible that when the trojans were removed they took something along with it.

First if all you did was remove a few files you may not have gotten rid of the entire virus. You should get some virus removal software. If you are not getting sound and you are sure the virus is gone then you probably need to reinstall the sound card driver.

Try removing your soundcard device from the device manager
First go to your soundcard (or motherboard's website if you have onboard audio) and download the latest drivers for XP (or whatever version of windows you have).
Control Panel -> System -> click the Hardware Tab (in XP) then Device Manager. Scroll down to your sound video and gaming controlers and remove your soundcard. Reboot and see if it automatically detects it.
If everything is fine, good. If not, try installing the new drivers you downloaded.
Also check your mixer settings Control Panel -> Sound and Audio devices and click on the advanced tab. See if anything is muted or the volume turned down.

try removing the sound drivers for the card and re-install and see if this works. you might have to do this in safe mode. you might also want to download a program called STINGER and run this on the system. i found that this program does a good job cleaning off the most popular trojans and virus files off the system. good luck.

Try going to The Control Panel then go to Sounds & Audio Devices & right click your mouse to open, then click on the "sounds tab", click on the different names, like close program, critical stop, & see if they have any sound, if not, just click on the ones you want a sound for, & pick out a sound, there should be a lot of different sounds you can pick out the ones that you-yourself want. click apply, then ok. but check back every so often, to make sure the sounds you picked out are still there, we have to do that also. If you can't remember where to go, just write it down, we have to do that & it sure helps, because there is a lot to try to remember, & writting it down, helps to give you a little break !!

Your best bet is to take it to a computer shop or dealer. I can tell you from past experience when i have messed it gets you into more trouble, and the price to get these problems fixed can be a real kick in the stomach.
When you have had this fixed, get an anti-virus programme like AVG! they are great. I forgot to say i think this happened to my moms computer and she had to buy a new one because they couldn't get the sound to work again. Now that is expensive!!

re-install the sound drivers. go to start, my computer, right click on empty spot and go to properties. click on the hardware tab and then device manager. look for your audio/sound. if you see a yellow ! double click on it and there will be a spot to install the driver.
