When your computer comes new from the factory it is setup to give you the very best performance. Everything has been fine tuned so that it runs fast straight out of the box...

However, over time you add new programs or delete old ones, install

games

or download files from the internet and when you do this, those optimal factory settings get overwritten and you can guess what happens...

Your computer starts to become slow, sluggish and bogged down.

...and you start to notice that it takes a little longer to load into windows, programs open a little slower and switching from program to program just isn't as quick as before.

But that's not the worst of it.

Another cause of a slow computer is when there are too many programs running on your computer at the same time. I'm not talking about the programs you can see running in the taskbar at the bottom of your screen but the many other programs running all at once in the background on your computer that you don't see.

These programs have built up over time and they remain there hiding in the background stealing your computer's processing power, memory and other resources.

And when this happens your computer becomes very slow and unresponsive, sometimes coming to a complete stop because all of your computer's resources are used up and there is no computing power left to do the things you want to use your computer for.

If you don’t have a memory, storage or virus problems you need a good cleaning. Download the following and there all free.

CCleaner: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download Open and run cleaner and registry cleaner delete all items in both.

RegSeeker: http://www.snapfiles.com/downloadfind.php?action=s&ref=2&st=regseeker Open and run Clean the registry make sure you select HKEY_USERS Key before you start, it is unselected for some reason then select GO. When finished running, at the bottom of the page click on the select tab and select all items then in the action tab select delete all items. Don’t worry you will not have any problems and the check is in the mail. Lol. Just kidding, it will not delete keys that will cause a problem in your registry.

Glary Utilities: http://www.snapfiles.com/downloadfind.php?action=s&ref=2&st=Glary+Utilities Open and select 1-Click Maintenance, make sure to select all boxes and scan for issues.

Run RegSeeker again go through the same process as above to clean the registry. After cleaning the registry then selected privacy tab and select old start menu items and select the tabs to clean as you did to clean the registry. In the privacy tab again selected Junk Files and clean and clean the same way.

After you’re done running all three and the RegSeeker again go back and run CCleaner and Glary Utilities again. Shutdown and restart. Should be much better.

The web site www.snapfiles.com is one the best I have found for free programs, so far for every program that I have downloaded, there has never been any malware, or other BS programs associated with it.

It all depends on what is happening in your computer? It could be a virus or it could be a specific program that is causing the problem or it could be many factors that is adding up to all the problems. That is slowing down your computer. Get rid of unwanted programs: Free up storage space and memory by uninstalling programs that you don’t use. These may include trial versions of software that came with the computer when you bought it, out-of-date anti-virus programs, and old software or games that you no longer play. Click Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a program. From the list of programs that appears, click the program you want to uninstall, then click Uninstall.

Remove temporary files: Window’s Disk Clean-up utility can help boost your computer’s performance by removing temporary files and unnecessary system files: Click Start. In the search box, type ‘disk clean-up’ and, from the list of results that appears, click Disk Clean-up. In the list of Drives, click the hard disk drive that you want to clean. For most people this will be the C: drive. Click OK. In the Disk Clean-up box, select the type of files that you want to delete and then click OK and then click Delete files.

Usually, computer slows down due to some causes. PC may easily get infected through many ways. If you download freeware/shareware from unreliable websites, click on unknown links and pop-ups, open spam emails/attachments or instant messages, you will be attacked by Trojans, spyware, malware and adware and other threats. It is created by cyber criminals to collect your valuable information for illegal profits. For the sake of your computer and privacy, it is strongly suggested to download an advanced removal tool on your computer which has the ability to help you solve this annoying issue.

Uninstall the application which are not useful for you but just there to slow the system. Slowness of the system depends on certain things like the storage capacity and the occupied space on the system. The heavy applications also slow down the system, most importantly if you don't have fast processor.

Check weather your C drive has used more than 50% of storage, because c drive consists of windows files and many more program to run the computer. To check how much space is taken by the C drive. left click on my computer icon on the desktop then go to manage then go to disk management and see how much percentage your c drive has taken... then free up your drive c by transferring your documents to another drive. you should leave at least 60% free to the system drive.. After transferring your data to other drive.. format your computer once and install the necessary software only. remember not no install heavy games on drive c. you can install them on other drives such as D& E.

This should help with RAM and CPU usage.

1. Right-Click the taskbar (The bar at the bottom of the screen with the windows logo on it.) and click on "Start task manager".

2. Once you've done that click on the processes tab and find things you don't need then once you have them selected click "End Process".

-------------------

This part should help with boot speeds.

1. Open the start menu.

2. Type msconfig.

3. Click on the msconfig application.

4. Click on the startup tab.

5. Then click "Disable All"

-------------------

This part should help with freezes, crashes, etc.

1. Open the start menu.

2. Type %tmp% and click on the Temp folder.

3. Select everything in the folder and delete it... if you get a notification saying it couldn't be deleted. Just leave those files.

-------------------

Hope it helped

I've had the same prob with mine, and I went to the store to format it. After that it was pretty much the same as the default factory device; quick, doesn't get too hot and usable.

Just don't go downloading softwares or files from unknown sources after that, otherwise it might get slow again.

Speeding Up Your PC:

The following are some basic procedures that can help to dramatically improve your system's performance:

Step 1: Optimize your Registry:

Use NTREGOPT to Optimize your Registry:

Please download NTREGOPT from here and save it to your desktop.

http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

If using Windows XP, double-click on ntregopt-setup.exe to begin installation and follow the onscreen instructions to install it. If using Windows Vista or Windows 7 you must right-click on the file and choose Run as administrator.

Once it is installed UNCHECK the box next to Show documentation but leave the Launch NTREGOPT box checked and click Finish.

Once the Welcome! box appears click OK. You will now see it starting to optimize your registry. Please be patient as it can take a while.

Once it completes you will be prompted to restart your computer. Save anything you were working on and click Yes.

Note: You may see an error while optimizing the first registry hive on Windows 7, this is normal, just click Yes to allow the optimization to continue.

Step 2: Delete Temp Files to Free Up Space:

Use CCleaner to Remove Temp Files:

CCleaner from here and save the installer to your desktop.

http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/slim

Close all open internet browser windows

Double click on the ccsetup file to start the installation of the program.

Select your language and click OK, then click Next.

Read the license agreement and click I Agree.

Click Next to use the default install location. Click Install then click Finish to complete installation.

Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.

On the Windows tab, under Internet Explorer, uncheck Cookies if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit)

If you use Firefox or any other Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for Cookies is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.

Click on the Options icon at the left side of the window, then click on Advanced.

uncheck Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 24 hours.

Click on the Cleaner icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.

Caution: It is not recommended that you use the Registry feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items for removal, which can cause issues with other programs.

After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.

Clear Temp Files Using ATF Cleaner:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune from here and save the file to your desktop.

http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1

Close all open internet browser windows

Run ATF Cleaner by double clicking it.

Once the program opens, click the box next to Select All

Note: this will delete all cookies saved by sites that you have visited so if you need to keep any cookies for automatic logins etc then uncheck the Cookies option

Once that's all set click on the Empty Selected button and it will remove the temporary files from your system.

If you use Firefox or Opera browsers then click the appropriate button at the top of the program and delete the temp files from them as well following the same procedure.

Run TFC by OldTimer to clear temporary files:

Please download TFC from here or here and save it to your desktop.

http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/TFC.exe

~~~~~
http://www.itxassociates.com/OT-Tools/TFC.exe
Close any open programs and internet browsers.
Double click TFC.exe to run it and once it opens click on the Start button on the lower left of the program to allow it to begin cleaning.
Please be patient as clearing out temp files may take a while.
Once it completes you may be prompted to restart your computer, please do so.
Once it's finished you may delete TFC.exe from your desktop or save it for later use for the cleaning of temporary files.
Step 3: Configure System Restore to use less space:
Configure System Restore in Windows XP:
Click on START and right-click on My Computer and choose Properties
Click on the System Restore tab
Under Disk space usage move the slider to 3%
Click on Apply and click on OK
Restart your computer
Configure System Restore in Windows 7:
Click on the Start Posted Image button and right-click on Computer and choose Properties
Click on System Protection on the left and click Continue if prompted
Make certain that the hard drive that Windows is installed on is highlighted in the list (usually C:) and click on Configure...
Under Disk Space Usage move the slider to 3%
Click on Apply and click on OK
Restart your computer
Note: You cannot configure the amount of space used by System Restore in Windows Vista.
Step 4: Defrag your Hard Drive and run CHKDSK:
Defragment your Hard Drive:
Please copy and paste the following text in the Code box exactly as written into notepad (not wordpad or any other text editor):
defrag "%systemdrive%"
del /f /q %0
Once you've done that click on File and select Save As...
In the Save dialogue box click on the drop down menu next to Save as type and select All Files
Name the file defrag.bat (the .bat extension is very important)
Save the file to your desktop and double click it to run it if running Windows XP. If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you must right-click on the file and choose Run as administrator.
Run a Disk Check on your C: drive in Windows XP:
Click Start and open My Computer
Right-click on C: and select Properties
Click on the Tools tab
Under Error-checking click the Check Now... button
Mark the box next to Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors
