Unless your mom wrote the code down on her computer, you won't find it there -- the entry is masked and thus is undecipherable. You'd have to log on to the router (using its ID and password), and even then there's no guarantee you could read the code.

Personally, she's doing you a favor, as a wired connection is usually nearly twice as fast as a wireless one. And WEP is less secure than WPA, anyway. You don't have to worry about that on a wired connection.

When you press the reset button. Hold the button for 30 secs.. Make sure no lan cable is connected to it With the power plugin Then unplug it after 30 secs Hold the the button for 30 secs Then plugin the power Press the button for 30 secs for reset again. Now go into the router and create a new wep key 128-bit and something you can remember to use. Create the key manually and put that on a file and hide it but keep a copy and put it into a desk draw. Once these key is created you can use it in your wireless devices.

fist find your routers IP address.

type cmd in your run box, this will bring up a command prompt.

type ipconfig

this will list your IP as well as your gateway(router)

your routers IP will most likely be, but not limited too

192.168.0.1

192.168.2.1

192.168.1.254

10.0.0.138

once you know your gateway/router type http://IP_of router_here

it will ask you for your password. as suggested already it will be admin

admin

password

blank

once thru that stage check out your wireless settings, security is what you want..look up WEP, hell you can figure it out from here.

this is all assuming your modem router gateway has wireless built in, you may have an access point, but its much the same.

this is also assuming that this is your wireless network and not your neighbors.

NOTE : WEP has been broken for a longtime, do not use WEP as it will only keep the honest crooks out.use WPA with a password phrase that is not in the dictonary.

u could do it illegally by cracking it... which is easy theses days,

just need the right equiptment and an iso of backtrack 3..... any ways...

if u connect to the router through an Ethernet cable(doesnt have to be her's), then you can login to the router using its website...

like mine is: 192.168.1.1

or somthing, look in the manual.

if she hasent choose her own password for that website's login, then it should be a default, which should also be in the manual.

after you log in, just go under wireless, then to into security.

it should show you the key, and the option to change it and other cool stuff...

if the wep code came with the modem it would be on a sticker on the modem itself. if she created the wep code go into the modem by opening command prompt type in ipconfig and take the ip address given and type it in the address bar of your internet browser

when you just bought it, it means the router has no info yet... So you must provide it with passwords and other info... There is an installation CD for that..Just follow the guide or look at your router's manual

TRY LOOKING AT THE BACK OF THE ACTUAL ROUTER, THERE MIGHT BE A STICKER..... IF SHE HASENT CHANGED IT....

LOL IF SHE HAS CHANGED IT, THEN U CAN USE THE RESET BUTTON ON THE BACK AND IT WILL GO TO DEFAULT SETTINGS, WHICH MEANS THE PASSWORD ON THE BACK WILL BE IN USE.

BUT SHE MIGHT GET MAD AND PUT MORE RESTRICTIONS ON IF U DO THE RESET IDEA.
