I am not sure, if anyone can say Macs are safe. In case of a buffer overflows no one is safe. That is why is Apple releasing updates. Apple is cleverly releasing the updates at the same time Microsoft is under heavy publicity.

I would definitely suggest using a antivirus program like norton/symantec antivirus for macs. Spyware is extremely easy to avoid with careful browsing habits. I will also add that, the targeted audience on spyware tools are windows users. Mac users are safe in that way!

Realistically - NO.

There are a few virus that affect MicrosoftWord documents but you can prevent those by disabling Macros when loading unfamiliar .docs files.

As for spyware, there is none that is downloaded and installed automatically via the internet.

Some people have written programs that 'phone home' with information, and for that I use a program called Little Snitch. It is like a reverse firewall.

But in general, Mac OS X is fairly safe though design and obscurity. Plus many of the security features are on by default.

So at this time, there is no need for either type of software.

Please keep in mind that many of thr mac antivirus programs actually allow more problems to happen than if you had none.

As for a buffer overflow, no virus program will manage this, this is better handled by your ISP or a good home firewall/router.

Do NOT install Norton on a Mac. Norton messes up the Mac, and Norton has even discontinued support for its Mac line of antivirus.

I have a Mac and it comes with a built-in firewall and so far I've had zero virii or spyware installed on my computer. I use tripwire to make sure.

I have 2 Macs and continually situation about this. multiple human beings say you do not favor it, yet then you genuinely can bypass viruses alongside to the subsequent guy with a computer. even if, the subsequent guy with a computer must have sufficient protection so what's the great deal? i imagine Norton has an anti virus for Mac... i'm questioning about getting it.
