The most likely cause for this slow down is a virus / spyware / adware.

Without a firewall, a pc can grind to a halt within a day of being connected to the internet, but even with a firewall, spyware can accumulate and gradually slow your pc down.

Visit http://www.computeractive.co.uk/downloads/

From here you can download: -

"Zone Alarm 7" (A free and very good firewall). Don't download this if you already have a firewall.

"AVG 7.5.446" (A free antivirus program). Again, don't download if you already have an upto date antivirus. If you choose to replace an old antivirus program with this one, download the AVG file, disconnect from the internet, uninstall ur old antivirus and install this new one. Connect to the net and download all available updates.

"Spybot Search and Destroy" (Anti spyware/adware). No matter what security you have on your computer, download this too. This will fix most of your problems, if not all of them (you will have more than one problem on your computer).

"Adaware" (Another anti spyware/adware program). Again, it's important to download this tool as it will remove what ever spybot can't (and vice versa).

Once downloaded, install and update each program (might take a while, but make sure that you do update them, this is important).

Perform your scans and check the files you want deleted (inn alomst all cases you will be wanting to delete all the dangerous files found, so right click and click 'select all' (or similar) and then 'fix problems' (or similar).

Using registry cleaner can fix your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there are some regsitry errors and remnant,corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries.You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!It even can speed up your computer by 300% or more!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

A reverse cell phone lookup service I have used is http://reversephone.toptips.org

Enter the number in the system and they will tell you a lot of informations about the phone number and the person who owns it.

If they have extra details you will have to pay for the report.

Free reverse phone lookup sites generally don't provide anything interesting. To get further information, money will have to be paid. The free searches do not provide much more than what can be found through the phone book.

The best thing is that you can get informations about anyone!!

Here is a simple tutorial on how to cleanup your computer. They are real basic steps, but it is a good first step to take and will often clean out 95% of the junk (such as spyware, viruses, etc) off your computer, and will remove most popups (if you have them). All the tools used are free of use. Here is the link:

I would use Disk defragmenter and disk clean and if it doens't work any better then totally reboot (This will make you loose all your data so back it up!)

And follow the steps here ( http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic53502.html )

That will get it setup how it was when you first got it and it will run significantly faster.

The best option is System Restpre. Restore it to before it was slow and then it will be right again.

Glad to help

Run Ccleaner, use the Issues tool and then the Cleaner.

Then run an anti virus and anti spyware, and see if anything is found. If it is, switch off System Restore as back up files may be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.

Run your anti virus and anti spyware in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

Its easier to prevent malware getting on to your sytem in the first place rather than trying to remove it. All the following programs are free for home use;

You need to install one firewall.The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out.

http://www.comodogroup.com/ - Comodo firewall.

You need to install one anti virus;

http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ -AVG anti virus or

http://www.avast.com - Avast Antivirus

http://www.bitdefender.co.uk/site/Main/view/Download-Free-Products.html - Bitdefender 8 doesn't run in the background and can be used as a second back up anti virus.

You need all these anti spyware programs;

http://www.ewido.net - AVG(Ewido) anti trojan.

http://www.safer-networking.org - Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware. Use the Teatimer settings to protect Internet Explorer, and the Immuniser to stop malware getting on your pc.

Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com

Plus;

http://www.lavasoft.com - Ad-Aware SE Personal anti adware

And these are useful utilities;

http://www.mozilla.com/ - Firefox web browser.

https://addons.mozilla.org/search.php?q=ad+block&type=A&app=firefox - Adblock Plus

http://www.ccleaner.com - Cr*pcleaner Registry cleaner and privacy tool

Winpatrol is a handy utility that manages cookies on your pc and stops unwanted changes to your startup folder.

http://www.winpatrol.com

http://www.siteadvisor.com -MacAffee Site Advisor warns about malware on sites you are about to visit.

http://spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm - The Spyware Warrior site identifies fake anti spyware programs.

https://www.grc.com - Shields Up security site, check your firewall works.

https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

Remember to update and run all of you anti malware programs at least once a week.

Finally, use Winpatrol to cut down the programs that load on Startup. Leave Windows and your security software, stop stuff like your office suite. It'll still be in the Start menu.

Then defragment your hard drive from Start - programs - accessories - system tools - disc defragmenter, leave the pc while it runs.

Then restart.

If that hasn't helped, you may have to restore to factory settings, but will lose all your files unless you can burn them to cd or use removable storage.

Here are some tips to help your system run better. Most spyware/malware/trojen removing software just sucks.

Here’s a quick run down from Download.com:

With the ability to scan your RAM, Registry, hard drives, and external storage devices for known data-mining, advertising, and tracking components, Ad-Aware SE easily can clean your system, allowing you to maintain a higher degree of privacy while you surf the Web. Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition boasts a number of improvements. Extended memory scanning now scans all modules loaded by a process. Scanning uses the all- new CSI (Code Sequence Identification) technology to identify new and unknown variants of known targets. Extended Registry scanning now scans Registry branches of multiple-user accounts and performs additional smart checks to detect dynamically created references. Scanning speed is noticeably faster, and this version offers an Extended Scanning mode for known and unknown/possible browser hijackers.

Go download Ad-Aware Personal from here:

http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html

Press the “download now” link. If nothing pops up, then you’re using a pop up stopper and to by pass this you should press the “Ctrl” button on your key board. Now a file download box should pop up. Press “Run”. After installing the software, you will press “start” on the application. Be sure the “perform smart system scan” option is bubbled in. Now press “next”. Once it has scanned your system for possible hijackings, malware, spy ware and such, now its time to delete them. Press next. Place a check mark in all boxes except for the one labeled “MRU List” as this is not necessary to delete. Click OK and now you’re done.

Now, if you have anti virus software, and you have viruses, you might want to consider changing to a better virus protection. If you paid for McAfee or Norton, sorry, it’s too bad, because you can go download Avast anti virus for free, and its way better. But you have to uninstall your old anti virus. Go to Start/Control panel/Add Remove programs, and uninstall the other one you have. Alot of people are saying to use AVG, but unless they have improved it, it used to be a resource hog, meaning slow your system dramatically.

Here’s a quick run down from Download.com:

Avast Home Edition is a complete ICSA certified and Secure Computing Magazine awarded antivirus software for home noncommercial use. Avast includes the following components: On Demand Scanner—with skinnable simple interface—just select what do you want to scan in which way and press the Play button; On Access Scanner—special providers to protect the most of available e-mail clients; Instant Messaging—ICQ, Miranda; Network traffic—intrusion detection—lightweight firewall; P2P protection for Kazaa, BitTorrent; Web shield—monitors and filter all HTTP traffic; NNTP Scanner—scans all Usenet Newsgroup traffic and all operations with files on PC; Boot Time Scanner—scans disks in the same way and in the same time as Windows CHKDSK does.

I have been using this program for about four years, and wouldn’t change if you paid me.

Here’s the link:

http://www.download.com/3000-2239-10019223.html

Go head and repeat last steps for downloading and installing this program too. Once you install it, the program will ask you if you want to run a boot scan and answer that with a YES. This boot scan scans your boot up for viruses and is a great tool. Here’s a quick rundown on how to run this antivirus:

Once it’s open, click on the icons to the right. First the one that looks like a hard drive, then the one that looks like a CD. Next, click on the one that looks like a folder and select the “My Computer” icon. Next click on the Icon on the left that is the letter A. This sets the sensitivity level, set it to high. Now press the PLAY button and it will scan you system, most likely finding Viruses your crappy anti virus never found.

***********************************

I know this is a long explanation, but I figured it was better than just telling you to go download these programs you never have used before, then you have to figure out how to use it, how annoying.

Once your done with this, go to your start menu. Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools and then run the Disk Clean Up first, then once this is done, using the same method of finding disk cleanup, use your Disk Defragmenter.

Follow these steps if you haven’t already, and you will see a difference immediately. Now keep in mind, the computer wasnt slowed in five minutes, so dont expect to fix it in five minutes. You will have to have some patients in order to finish all of these step, but it is well worth it. I have more information that can help you like stopping programs that are unnecessarily running in the background and slowing your system down, the how to. Contact me via email, let me know how this worked out, and I will send a step by step instructions how to stop progs from running with out your knowledge in your configuration settings.

Good luck!
