When you delete files in your Windows, the data does not get deleted, it is still on your hard drive. The data sectors on the hard drive just get marked as free for any data you want to store on your hard drive down the road. Your deleted data gets really wiped out when you copy new data to your hard drive and your hdd mechanism places the data over your "deleted" data. So, until this happens, your system is able to do recovery.

A recovery reverts to a snapshot of your computer that day.

When you delete a file it goes to the recycle bin.

When you empty the recycle bin the pointers (reference link the the file) to that file are deleted. Eventually the file will get written over, but the file is still on your computer. EVERYTHING YOU DELETE IS!

Programs are made to erase the file and make them unrecoverable.

To erase the contents (of a file, folder, or the entire HDD):

You need a program that erases the hardrive.

You can search the internet for freeware.

This is an example of a program that will erase the contents off your HDD

If you really need everything off the HDD you can swipe a magnet over it. But you probably don't need anything to that extent.

The above solution will not work if good disk analyzer is used. I suggest you get Tune-Up, then using Tune-Up Shader, use the gottman method. It is the most secure way to delete a file. But be warned, the file deleted by this method can't be recovered by any means.

What a computer does when you "delete" it, it means that other files are ok to write over it. It still counts as free space, I wouldn't worry about that they're hidden, there's no way to delete them permanently. If you actually format, then there is no way to get it back.

system restore wont bring back your personal files. it just reverts back to some older system settings.

when you delete a file it is first removed from the file allocation table, but once you write to the disk after that, its gone forever.
