Question:
How do you clear the Windows XP Run dialog, all of it?

I'm pulling my hair out over this.

When you start typing a letter in the "Run..." command's dialog box, a file history comes up. I want to know how to clear THIS specific history, NOT the recently used drop down history (MRU list). Does ANYBODY know how to do this?

For example, if I type the lowercase letter "f", I get something like "file:///C:\..."
I want that GONE.

I've tried all those apps (CCleaner, TweakUI, etc.) so don't suggest that.

Apparently, and stupid as this might be, it's tied to the auto-complete functionality of IE!

1. Select "Tools" - "Internet Options".

2. When the "Internet Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Content" tab.

3. Next to "AutoComplete" click "Settings".

4. The "AutoComplete Settings" dialog box will appear. Next to "Web addresses" check or uncheck the box as desired.

5. Click "OK" on the dialog boxes to close them.

********* This is as far as you need to go to disable the autocomplete, but if you want more privacy:

Now, if you disabled website AutoComplete and wish to clear the AutoComplete history (which is the same thing as clearing your browser history):

1. Click "Tools" - "Delete Browsing History".

2. When the "Delete Browsing History" dialog box appears, click "Delete history".

3. A "Delete History" warning dialog box will appear. Click "Yes".

4. Click "Close" to close the "Delete Browsing History" dialog box.

Thats a basic function built in to the program... Just keep typing over it and it won't get pasted in.

Why would you need the MRU list to be gone?
