Windows Security Center inquiry?
?

Ok, I performed a system recovery on my new-used HP Compaq Presario F700 Notebook via its Recovery Manager. Everything "looks" good, but it's freezing up alot. For the spyware, I installed SUPERantispyware because I've used this on many pc's and love it. It found all kinds of stuff
So anyway, for the malware, the laptop came with Norton, only it needed some updating, which I did, followed by a full system scan. But Windows Security Center still says to check the settings for my "Malware Protection". It says the following:
Firewall = On (green light)
Automatic Updating = On (green light)
Malware Protection = Check settings (yellow light)
Spyware and other Malware Protection = On (green light) [Windows Defender is actively protecting your computer]
Other security settings = OK (green light)

When I click on the yellow light (Check settings), it says:
Virus Protection = Not compatible (yellow light)
"Norton Internet Security is on but is reporting its status to Windows Security Center in a format that is no longer supported. Use the program's automatic updating feature, or contact the program manufacturer for an updated version."
Then a link that says Show me available options.

When I click on the link, another Security Ctr window pops up saying the following:
Choose an antivirus option...
1) Go online to get a different antivirus program
2) I have an antivirus program that I'll monitor myself: Choose this option if your antivirus program cannot report status to Security Center. You will not be notified about the state of your antivirus program.
3) Don't monitor my antivirus software state (not recommended): Choose this option if you don't want Security Center to remind you that you don't have an antivirus program installed.

So... questions...
As per option 2, how do I know if my Norton can't report to Security Ctr? And as for using the program's automatic update feature, how do I do that? Or how do I find out if Norton has one? Or should I just choose another antivirus program? (By the way, I don't have funds "at the moment" to purchase another one, so I'd be using a free download, but they're always changing which one is best, haha...)
Thx everyone... I know this is a pain-in-the-rear question, so thanks so much!!!

you mustn't have the two, fairly. What you like is a application like avast or AVG antivirus. the two a sort of incorporate loose. domicile windows Defender does not take care of against lots of something and is especially ineffective. this is became off by ability of going to administration Panel, and then bypass to protection techniques and it could have domicile windows Defender there. you could have the means to tutor it off there. in case you could provide which version of domicile windows you're making use of i'd desire to grant greater helpful classes there. McAfee is a bad theory because of the fact it is so very mainstream. Virus programmers tend to make their viruses so as that they're going to infect as many desktops as feasible and reason rather some injury. because of the fact the main ordinarily used antivirus and firewall application products are McAfee and Norton application, they're going to application the virus to get around those 2.
