Do I need a new computer?

So I got my computer around 3 years ago, and it works just fine on sites that do not require things like adobe or java, but in places like YouTube and on gamesites my computer makes a lot of noise and usually shuts down around 30 minutes afterwards it shuts off by itself. I called a computer expert and he said to let it rest for a few days, so I left it off for a week, and when I went back on YouTube and watched a few vids it shutdown again this time in a shorter amount of time. So I'm wondering should I get a new computer.

A 'computer expert' told you to let it rest for a few days? That's a good one. You need a PC with a little more gusto. With out knowing the specs on your PC I'd say you need faster,better internet service if your system is balking at running a few youtube videos. And if it's shutting down try cleaning it out and make sure the cooling fan is working.

You have the latest v of Adobe and Java?



I would run a Check Disc: Start> My Computer> right-click on Local Disc C:> Properties> Tools tab> Check Now> put a check mark in both boxes> Start.



edit: Here are some more things that might cause the problem:

Power Supply is inadequate

Graphics Driver need updated

Not enough memory

your computer is fine what probley is wrong is simple eather needs to be cleaned out on the insie to do that get a can of air duster and blow all the dust out go ahead and leave the side panel off and plug the computer bace in and turn on and look inside and make shure all the fans are spinning if not then that is the problem a new fann is like $12 to $20 and a can of air duster is like $8 hope this helps

It sounds like it's overheating when you ask it to do something more demanding than just browsing. Make sure that the fan(s) are spinning and that the processor heatsink is clean. It might be a good idea to remove it and apply new thermal paste.
