Well you need to go to your wireless net work website and password protect it so that no one can get on there and disconnect you

turn on your WPA2 encryption and nobody but those who have the password should be able to get into your network and mess with your computer settings.
Also dont use the default passwords...
Lastly, run a hardware router as this acts like a firewall. Keep the software one in Windows turned on though.

Make sure your computer has all the Windows Updates installed. Make sure you have an antivirus installed. I like Avira which is free. Install Spybot Search & Destroy and use the immunize and search features. Download and run XP anti-spy and set everything to the recommended settings. Use CCleaner. Try using a firewall such as Zone Alarm. If your wireless network isn't password protected, you need to fix that. Let me know if you have any questions.

there is an previous asserting admins use: in the event that they have actual get admission to to a device, they might get in. the only thank you to guard a working laptop or workstation is to bodily lock it up. no rely what you do, he ought to nonetheless boot from a cdrom and get in. (whether you alter the BIOS password) in case you get another workstation that doesn't enable cdrom booting w/out a password.. he ought to nonetheless pull the annoying rigidity, mount on yet another device and persist with putting transformations. it is an immutable regulation with computers. actual get admission to == insecure. Sounds to me like he thinks this could be a sport of "i'm smarter than you". If it have been me... i could lock the device up, deploy openbsd, positioned a dumb terminal in his room and tell him he needs to jot down his homework utilising "troff". (and truthfully.. troff isn't that undesirable.. I incredibly savor it and if he's confronted with those obstacles, he could truthfully learn some thing approximately computers.. it ought to truthfully be good for him) i does not play cat and mouse, nor could I (if i ought to help it..) exhibit frustration, yet incredibly, "that became right into a stupid portion of do.. people won't assist you employ their stuff in case you mistreat it, stupid newborn"

I might not be an expert but I can tell you some simple things that could help, first you need antivirus protection. Norton antivirus is very good. But if you chose to use a free program you could use something like avast from http://www.avast.com . You also need anti-spyware protection, you can get spybot search and destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html . You will also need a real good firewall such as norton internet security which you can even get as a trialware download from http://www.symantec.com/index.jsp or if you want a free alternative you can visit http://www.comodo.com/ , click on the free downloads link and you will see some programs to download that could be helpful. Also if you want further protection and your using perhaps mozilla firefox go to the privacy and security section at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:1/cat:12 and you might find some helpful addons. Other then using a firewall another type of protection can be a proxy which can be a special type of dns server. Far as I know http://www.comodo.com has 2 special dns servers or proxies. And another website thats worth checking out that also has 2 special dns servers or proxies is http://www.opendns.com, opendns.com has instructions on their website about how to enter their dns ip addresses along with some other options, etc. Im also one of those people that believe that mozilla firefox is safer to use then internet explorer but of course everyone choses their favorite. Which ever browser you use just remember to keep it updated. Well good luck and I hope this helps. :-)

As long as you have Windows Firewall up and running, and your Vista UAC enabled, the chance some can change your system settings is so small, you couldn't see it with an electron microscope.
Yeah. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, you know how when you try to run a program, sometimes a confirmation window popsup with a "allow" or "cancel"/"deny" options, then you are fine and noone can change your system settings.
