Ok. My computer has been working fine. I have comcast and hi-speed internet. But whenever I start my computer it will start. and often load. my problem starts when its all on and loading there's a box that pops up that says viewmngr has encountered a problem and needs to close. It comes up as one of those pop ups that can send an error report. SO I send the report every time and my computer continues to load....SUPER SLOW. which used to never be a problem. (used to load super fast) then. when my internet is on I go to open a browser and immediately pops up a box telling me that I need to instal antivirus 2009. I have no intention of doing this cause I know that its a virus. so I don't bother clicking it. Instead I'll turn off the computer and start all over. or just finish what im doing and then shut off the computer. I know that these problems are caused by a virus. and that's probably the antivirus 2009. and I have AVG 8.0 it usually works but since i got this virus I haven't been able to update it or run a computer scan. or its scheduled scan. so im screwed on that end. NOW how do I get rid of the virus without wiping my hard disk? and getting rid of everything. and once I get rid of it, Is McAfee a good choice in virus protection, because it comes with my internet service.... HELP ME PLEASE

DanUK's solution may work but I haven't used that software.

The solution here works and I know this as I have used it myself and have helped others with the same solution. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Its a virus called TDSSserv.sys. Try this

* Click on Start, click Run, and then type devmgmt.msc and click OK

* On the View menu click on Show hidden devices

* Browse to Non-Plug and Play Drivers and you should see something like TDSSserv.sys

* Highlight that driver and right click on it and select DISABLE

* Now RESTART your computer.

* Download a copy of Malwarebytes but DO NOT run it yet.

* Rename the downloaded installer file to any generic name such as your own name but keep the .EXE extension on the file and run it.

* Once the program is installed go to the UPDATE tab and try to update the program if you can.

* Then go to the SCANNER tab and run a Quick Scan and allow MBAM to fix anything found.

Your computer has a symptoms of -ware attack, usually caught it unintentionally. In your case, whenever you open a browser, you tend to get redirected to a site where they suggest that you buy the product in order for the warez/virus to be remove. The problem is much more profound now depending on how long you had this problem. Usually on the first to second day when the warez enters your computer, it continues to let other unknown warez/virus. By purchasing the product from their site you only fix one of the many problems that was intentional on their part. Because your problem may be more than just one type of warez/virus you may not be able to get rid of the whole problem entirely. Assuming that you are a beginner users, I recommend you back up your system and perform a complete restoration and buy third-party software such as zone alarm or comodo firewall to help in your aid. These products are by far out performs McAfee anyday. Bigger companies don't try hard to help its consumer. Once they go big, they just mass produce to make money. Norton was good back then, so much for a Name brand now these days.

Whether or not you should do a complete restore on your computer depends on the complexity of the virus. If you decide to go ahead with the restoration process, main stream anti-virus product especially those are that are big brand names tends to under perform. For example, you have heard of brand as "Norton, McAfee and etc." The one that you currently own now is McAfee. There are many smaller company that does a better job than the bigger company. The disadvantage of having Norton and its counterpart is that, the softwarez itself slow your computer down because it takes more of your systems memory just to run it. Package program where you get anti-virus, firewall, anti-spam and etc. are a no no in a experience users book. Stand alone products out perform package bundle usually any day. For example on my computer, I am running a zone alarm fire wall with iolo system scan. For me, softwarez that shines are usually the ones that are less known; on the bright side they take up the least amount of memory on my computer. Giving me more memory to run my other applications and movie watching time.

If you continue with a complete restoration, I recommend you to have the following items install:

Beginners:

1) Firefox 3.0

2) Zone Alarm (free edition from Zone lab)

3) Iolo system doctor

4) Firefox plug-in a) pop-up blocker

5) AVG Anti-Virus

Novice:

1) Opera Browser or Firefox

2) Zone Alarm or Comodo

3) Adware Remove

4) Pg2

5) Systems tweak: e-mail me for a basic system tweak that even you can perform. I will give you the instructions. I recommend it also for beginners if they use their computers for multi-tasking.

Regarding your questions, if you are unable to load a third-party softwarez (anti-virus program) and fix your minor virus problem I would say your problem is a bit out of your hand.

Your computer has a virus, antivirus 2009 is not a real antivirus and it is infact a rogue spyware program. I personally don't like McAfee and I use AVG like you do, but I haven't gotten any viruses yet since I gotten it. Try using combofix to remove antivirus 2009, and see the other link in the sources to help you remove this. Run combofix first though.

Sounds like you have the brand new variant on Anti-virus 2009, the one that does not allow the infected computer access to ANY anti-virus websites or update servers.

The "standard" cure for the Anti-virus 2009 infection used to be this:

"How to remove Antivirus 2009 (Uninstall Instructions)" at:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malware-removal/uninstall-antivirus-2009

Just scroll down to: "Automated Removal Instructions for Antivirus 2009 using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware".

But it won't work on the new variant.

Good luck anyway.

I got Antivirus 2009 onto my computer.

It's a Spyware virus and best removed by a proper Anti Virus CD-Rom which you can buy off Amazon or any other website.

Get avast and do a boot-time scan. It will get rid of ad-aware because you certainly have it. And the boot-tme scan disables system restore so all those viruses can never be uploaded again.

My Dad had this exact same problem. I just showed him the question + he said yeah that's exactly what I got. Try to back up whatever you can + then wipe the drive. NOTHING gets rid of it. Your computer's buggered. You need to do it quick. He says it just gets worse + worse eventually your browser won't work + you won't be able to go to ANY website. Though my Dad said he could go to BBC.co.uk

Nice job.. this is actually a simple fix believe it or not. Go to download.com and download Spybot, then remove McAfee.. that program is almost useless nowadays. Run the spybot scan and remove all the threats. If you need any help, get with me on yahoo messenger.
