I was getting hundreds of pop-ups on my laptop about it being infected. Then the last one said that someone was trying to hack into my computer. So I freaked out and agreed to buy the XP Antivirus 2008. But I still have the same pop-ups showinf on my computer from Vista Antivirus 2008. And they have also charged my for another two programs that I didnt want. What the hell should I do?

How do I get rid of the Vista Antivirus 2008? And does the XP Antivirus 2008 actually rid my computer of virus'? I hope so for £50.

Someone help my please.....

These articles say it's "counterfeit antispyware": http://www.windowsvistaplace.com/xp-antivirus-2008-removal-instructions-xp-antivirus-2008/spyware-removal

http://www.xp-vista.com/spyware-removal/xp-antivirus-2008-removal-instructions-xp-antivirus-2008

And this forum agrees:

It seems to me that you really need to get rid of the product, and that it'll likely take more than simply running the normal uninstaller.

Those are fake antiviruses, which are actually viruses/spyware themselves.

Get yourself a decent, REAL antivirus (always google about them before you get one). Best ones are Kaspersky or Nod32.

Scan thoroughly, get a decent antispyware and firewall as well.

If you bought them with your credit card, immediately check your balance. Call up your bank if anything's gone iffy.

You have fallen for one of the oldest scams in the book. Sorry.

Immediately install some reputable, free malware removal tools. I recommend 'spybot search and destroy' and 'adaware'.

You have given your credit card information to a scammer. You may need to dispute the charges and you may even want to cancel your credit card and get assigned a new number.

In real world terms, you just gave your credit card number to someone who knocked on your door and said, "pay me $50 to stop knocking on your door". Is it any surprise they came back after they got the money?

Sorry to give you the bad news.
