I got a mass email from a friend and all it contained was a link. I didn't click the link and it appeared as if there were no attachments, at least none that I opened.

Could my computer be infected with a virus, or is there little to no risk? How do I know?

You will know if your email starts sending the same email to all your contacts.

If it does, and you use yahoo/gmail, or other online email service, just change your password, and have your contacts do the same if they opened it.

If you use outlook, or other computer based email program, then scan your computer with MalwareBytes, and SUPERAntiSpyware.

If you didn't click the link your probably safe...most mass emails with just a link lead to pages that contain viruses that can download themselves to your computer by way of a "drive-by download," or are links file downloads. If you're still worried, scan your computer for viruses. Just make sure that your AV program has the latest Virus Definition File.

If your running AV didn't catch it and you did not open it, delete it. Now run a virus scan in Safe Mode.
