Question:
PC Virus blocked access to Internet sites?
2013-08-08 04:16:38 UTC
Hi everybody.

Yesterday I downloaded Microsoft Office 2013 (torrent) and when I opened the "Run it" icon in the downloaded folder, nothing happened. So I tried again a couple of times, but it still didn't work.
Now all of the icons associated with internet (Skype, google, facebook, yahoo) are blocked and I can't go on internet to even check my email from google chrome.
Every time I try going on facebook a red page appears with a message:

"The server's security certificate is revoked!
You attempted to reach www.facebook.com, but the certificate that the server presented has been revoked by its issuer. This means that the security credentials the server presented absolutely should not be trusted. You may be communicating with an attacker.
When you connect to a secure website, the server hosting that site presents your browser with something called a "certificate" to verify its identity. This certificate contains identity information, such as the address of the website, which is verified by a third party that your computer trusts. By checking that the address in the certificate matches the address of the website, it is possible to verify that you are securely communicating with the website you intended, and not a third party (such as an attacker on your network).

In this case, the certificate presented to your browser has been revoked by its issuer. This usually means that the integrity of this certificate has been compromised, and that the certificate should not be trusted."

As I understand, the virus got into my PC and now the whole server is blocked?
Same thing appears for other sites. I use Skype on day-to-day basis for my work and its just hell when its out of order.

I have Windows 8 on my laptop and I tried various antiviruses, but when they scan my pc, they don't seem to be showing any errors.

I need this fixed as soon as possible. Please someone help!

This is a virus created by an anti piracy hacker. You tried to pirate Microsoft office but instead you just installed the virus. It's pretty much saying "if you're going to cheat then you can't use the internet anymore".

The first option I would try is to turn off the computer, unplug the internet. Then turn the computer back on repeatedly pressing F8 through the windows screen until you see a black screen with white writing. It lists starting the computer in safe mode as an option. Move down to it and hit enter. When the computer boots up see if you can locate the downloaded files and delete them. If this is not possible then try a system restore to restore you computer to before the point where you installed the virus.

Beyond this idk. Maybe identify the name of the virus. Google helps. Somebody probably made a youtube video about how to fix it.

Yep, P2P is risky.. and it is one of the risks you take when you don't pay for the real deal.. not being snotty, it is just the way those things are.

Okay, lecture over...You most likely have a malware infection since you are seeing that on multiple sites. I am guessing a java exploit...

anyway..The easiest way to deal with this is to try a system restore to an earlier point.

Since av isn't pulling it out, try anti malware (Malwarebytes, Hitman, etc.).

Then check your browsers for settings, home page, tabs, etc. make sure those settings have not been messed with.

Then go to uninstall a program. Check anything you downloaded that day.. look up each program and delete the bugger.

Now, try to get online again and see how that goes.

Update Java, then disable it.

Run a windows update.

If that does not work, write back in additional details, I'll check back in a few hours.

p.s. the next time you download something risky like this, please scan it with both av and malware before installing.

Good luck!

you probably did authorize it thinking it was something else. At this point you won't be able to recover t his system. Your lucky though most laptops have a restore built in. Pull out your manual and do a full recovery you will lose all data and additional programs but you can reinstall after recovery. This virus is too bad For a novice to try and recover data. You could infect other computers or external drives, its' better for you to lose it than infect everything.

Switch off System Restore as it can be infected. Go to Start - programs - accessories -

system tools - system restore.

Download, install, update and run all these in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode, restart your pc and repeatedly press F8 as it restarts. Some malware consists of 2 files and one will re-instate the other if it is removed. Safe Mode stops this.

If you can't download them even in Safe Mode then you need to download them to a clean PC and transfer them over via a flash drive. Instal and run in safe mode.

And in future look for alternative, legal software. Open Office is legal and free, it will edit and save as MS Office files.

This covers checking for a virus. If needed, to recover your files and restore it back to factory setting.

You can try ESET online scanner to check for a virus. Below is a link for the instructions on how to do it online in safe mode. This will find the more easier one and get rid of them.

http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2921

If you have a real stubborn virus or wish to check for the kind of virus that can hide from the normal virus scanners, use the directions below.

First thing to try is to run RKill. The first link below discusses how it works and it is VERY IMPORTANT to read this page. The second link is for the virus removal guides offered by Bleepingcomputer. You will need another puter to download RKill and malwarebytes. You will need both of them on a thumb drive, DVD or a CD. RKill has different filenames because some malware will not allow processes to run unless they have a certain filename. Therefore when attempting to run RKill, if a malware terminates it please try a different filename. READ the instruction carefully on how to use the programs together.

This link show how to use Hitman Pro bootable USB when a virus has your system locked including safe mode.

If all else fails you will need to try to recover your data and files. If you can not boot into Windows to make a backup of your files then you can go to the link below and read on how to download a Linux Live CD to boot the system to recover what you want. If you have a Windows 8 puter then you need to turn of secure boot before using the CD. The live CD will also allow you to check out the rest of the puter. It helps to have a thumb drive or a external drive to copy your data and files to.

After you get your data backed up you can restore it back to factory settings.

Using the Advance Boot Options

When you press the power button, start tapping the F8 key. You will see the advance boot menu. Select repair your computer. Select your language and then enter your user name and password. Then click on (brand name) factory Image Restore and next. Answer the question and it should start the recovery back to factory settings.

Using Recovery from the recovery partition

When you press the power button start tapping the F key for your puter and the BIOS menu will open. Select recovery from the menu, answer the question and the recovery should begin. Depending on your puter this will take one to two hours.

Manufacturers BIOS menu F key

HP/Compaq ESC

Sony F2

ASUS Del

Gateway, eMachines F10

Acer, Dell, Fijitsu, Gigabyte, Toshiba F12

Your BIOS menu should look something like this. Yours might be different. I am posting this to give you an idea of what it looks like.

F1 = System Info

F2 = System Diagnostic

F9 = Boot Device options

F10 = BIOS Setup

F11 = System recovery
