Question:
Best antivirus for Mac?
?

I just got a new MacBook Air, and I'm wondering what antivirus I should install on my Mac. The main reason I need it is because my college (for whatever weird reason) requires all laptops to have it; otherwise you can't access the Internet. The semester's drawing to a close so for the time being I've got a free trial antivirus installed just to get me through. I'm somewhat cautious on Sophos since it's what caused my previous MacBook to crash.

Any suggestions? I know Macs usually don't need it but I'd like to be able to use Safari at school on my Mac. Thank you!!

You do not need anti-virus software on a Mac. It will, as you discovered, cause more problems than it solves.

Ask the college to read this...

They obviously will not understand it so you should look for another college where the staff have a greater intellectual capacity.

If you want to stay at this college you can install ClamXav which is free and will not trouble the Mac...

I would install Clamav. http://www.clamav.net/lang/en/ Clamav is what Apple uses on their server product to scan emails.
