I received a official letter in the mail today from strike it rich sweepstakes w/ the national magazine exhcange/ the founder pat haines. it says i have to call by a certain date to have a chance to to win 2.000,000,000 dollars. 1 in 28 million. it even gave me an id number. I looked it up online and some say its a scam which I thought. I know not to mess around w/ that or personal information. what are some signs its fraud or a fake?

The first sign it's a scam is the prize amount, 2 BILLION dollars! Even the multi-state lottery doesn't give away that kind of money and they sell hundreds of millions of tickets.

I never give out my credit card information to an incoming caller... If I were to receive this call I would thank the caller hang up and call the credit card company they mentioned directly... It's a pretty simple and easy way to protect your credit... If you are unsure of the number of your credit card company speak with your bank they have all the appropriate numbers and are very happy to give them to you if asked...

This is a scam. The general rule is that if it's too good to be true, it is! It's also mail fraud, and that is illegal.
