What is the best combination of FREE software that protect my computer?

Question

Norton = Balls too slow
McAfee, I bought Total Protection = Slows down computer

Currently have AVG only and I love it and its free (if you yget that version)

What else is good to have thats free and DOES Not slow down my computer?

Im running on vista home basic edition, what free software protecting programs go good together? ;)

Spybot is great, also use Ad-Aware. These will run only when you ask them to. Spybot can be configured to stop many threats before they occur, but it will need to be running to do that...it doesn't slow down the computer at all, though.



You're right about Norton and McAffee... they slow down the computer so much I'd rather have a virus! Oh, and by the way, knock on wood but I've been a pretty heavy net surfer and downloader for 15 years and still VIRUS FREE. It always helps to know EXACTLY what's running on your computer... for that I use a program cleverly titled "What's Running".

www.kubuntu.com. Full security kit in a bootable installer CD, free, all the tools go well together, no need for cracks, keygens, serials, and no slowdown on your PC at all. Just burn the iso, boot off the CD, back up your data (you NEED TO DO THIS BEFORE GOING FURTHER), it can be done from the install environment, click the install icon, run though the wizard that appears, and reboot at the end (remove the CD and store it in your CD rack/storage). That's it now all you need to do is copy your data back to your PC.

You can schedule the antiviruses and the spyware doctor to run while you are not on your computer,; the spyware removers can be run manually too,



Download and update the avg antivirus and download the spyware doctor below the shut your computer down and restart it and tap the F-8 key repeatedly while the system starts up and select safe mode and run the avg and the spyware doctor while in safe mode, This will catch it so you can remove it,

i could pronounced that AVIRA or avast is the known option freed from fee antivirus although u might desire to purchase a antivirus instead of a unfastened one because of the fact the only u have pay for u will recevice extra protection.i could advise u eset,kaspersky or bitdefender for paid version
