It is rather easy to get the IP addresses that are downloading a particular torrent. Many companies hired by MPAA and RIAA actuall does that. If you have static IP, it is easier for them to prove that you actually downloaded that. And incase of dynamic IP too, it is possible with help from the ISP.

If you get caught downloading illegal stuff, you generally get a warning and if you continue, your connection may be disconnected by the ISP.

However, in practice, only a very small percentage of people downloading illegal stuff from torrent are served a warning and a miniscule amount is tried at court. Most pf the cases have been lodged in the USA. So if u live outside US, there is only a small probability of getting caught. Also, IP loggers can be fooled by using a proxy.

However, I would suggest that please don't download copyrighted material from torrent. If you like something, buy it. :)

Or better, use open source.

I know that like 9000 people are being sued right now for downloading some porn film on a torrent by the makers, bet those people are embarrassed lol Yes you can get caught but its not that likely, if the company sues you could get a fine. You would probably get a warning first then if you did it again you would get a massive fine (like in the $1000's) and your inetnet provider may stop being your provider. Like i said its not likely but just so you know, you internet provider had everything you download andall the sites you go on and the website had your IP address which can be traced, So if you do get caught, you can't deny anything

Not all torrents are illegal. There are a few (not many at all) that are perfectly fine to download - and that was why torrents were designed in the first place.

However, if you do get caught downloading illegal torrents, you could be fined heavily, so try not to do that too much (rather buy the actual products - it's much better quality)

Probably very slim but you can get caught though. ISPs are reluctant to act as the music and other media industries wanting to crack down hard on them. But, the government are discussing ways of stopping them and France already wanting to do something about it. I think in the near future, more likely instead of arrests and heavy fines, we will see different tactics being used and one possible way is to cut of the internet access for a year, and you can see why ISPs are reluctant to act. It's true that not all torrents are copyrighted materials.

Anyway, naughty naughty, you know that stealing is wrong.

I've seen that highspeedtorrent.com before, it's a well know phishing site. Do not go to that site.

i recall one woman had to pay lot money to the music company when she was caught with their mp3 songs taken from warez.

it was in Arizona i think.

but that's like lightining striking one in a billion person.

like FBI or CIA puts their people download torrent and hence they can see your IP in their utorrent's 'Peers Tab' and then raid your house.

like they don't have any other important work.

(if they're doing so, then everyday thousands of youngsters in america would go to jail, downloading latest movies and mp3.)

you are unnecessarily worried man,

chill and enjoy it. nothing will happen.

you can use proxies in utorrent if you are so worried.

you said "I usually just download torrents with good comments about them, then delete them off utorrent once theyre done downloading."

but still you downloaded it hence if they were watching you - they'd have got your IP anyways.

besides most movies are free and legally available on youtube + most paid softwares have alternative freeware GPL softwares (like photoshop to GIMP)

so you can do with out torrent if you try.

also torrent can be addictive and hence hazardous to your eyes and electricity bill.

the only way you could get caught is if you download something and it asks you to register coz sometimes its a setup and you get fined nut iv been doing it for years and the chance is so minuscule that it dosent bother a mention
