Question:
Do I need a new computer?

Every 3 hours or so, I get the blue screen of death. It says Kernel_Data_Inpage_Error. I know this means I could have a RAM problem or some problem with reading the hard drive. But I don't have a virus according to many different scans. I just want to know if this can be fixed for under $100 or if it is too far lost. I've had it for 3 years and its been doing this 3 months.

If you have the OS disk..it should clear up the problem in fix mode..........otherwise just reformat....and do a fresh install of windows if that is your OS........

90% of blue screens are caused by either bad drivers or failing RAM, in your case its likely RAM.

The basic idea is that when your computer is transfering data from ram to page file, something is going wrong and causing a stop error. If you've never had problems with the HDD before, RAM would be my suspect. RAM is fairly cheap these days.

until you actually trouble shoot this error and actually know the data page location and how your system is configured (ie; is the kernel fully loaded into ram or is it partially in the swap file?), you cannot possibly get a real answer to this.

since very few people actuallly edit the registry to load the kernel into ram, tho some oem systems do this when ram was more expensive, you could first do a scandisc & repair from 'my computer-->disc properties--> tools, or you could set the kernel to load into ram fully in the regisrty. either one should determine where the problem lies. $0 cost.

Check the RAM modules; insert just one and run your PC to see which module could cause the problems. But possibly BSOD could be caused due to overheating the PC.

ez80227 has it right. Diagnose the problem rather than randomly buying replacement components or throwing your computer away. If you suspect the memory then try removing all but one memory module and see if it still happens. If it does then remove that memory module and try one of the others - if that doesn't sort it then it's not a memory fault, if it does then you know which module is the bad one.

Could just be a software fault. Best way to find out exactly what is wrong is to download and run SANDRA lite.

This diagnostic utility will test your hardware and if there is a fault then it'll pick it up. If it gives the all clear then likely the problem is either your bios or drivers needing updated or you need to format and reinstall Windows.

Your best bet is to buy a new computer, cause diagnosing it cost about $70 alone at Best Buy, but if your take it to staples they will take a look at it for free. If it costs to much to fix then but a new one and might i suggest getting a Core i3, i5, or i7 they are fast as crap with at least 4 gb of ram and 500 gb of hardrive you would be set for at least 5 years.

geta new hard drive, if this doesn't work try getting new ram (remove the old ram card(s) and get new ones)

this could cost up to or a little over $100

Just reload windows, if you still have the disks then it costs nothing otherwise its less then $100 for OEM software just look it up
