My computer (a toshiba laptop) freezes every time I try to open a folder (it's size is 2,83 GB, it contains a few subfolders with photos and shot videos).. an error window pops up: "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" and then another pops up: "DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close ".. Are the files in the folder corrupted somehow? Is there a way to fix this without deleting the folder? please help :)

It has got nothing to do with virus. If Dr Watson is involved, it's your Windows system. Your system become unstable maybe because the system itself, memory and other factors. It happened to me.

Maybe because the folder itself contains thousands of photo and videos in thumbnail mode and this make Windows work extra harder and requires extra memory or virtual and memory and Windows fail to do so.

If your folder contained large images in multiple subfolder, try this:

Right click your folder (where you store your 2.83GB pictures and videos) and select "Properties".

A window will appear and there a 3 tabs, "General, Sharing and Customize". Select "Customize" and under "What kind of folder do you want?" if the folder type selected as "Photo Album" or "Pictures", change it to "Documents (for any file types)".

Try to open your folder again. Browse through every folder and search for problem.

If the folder contains video is unable to open, or when you change your video to thumbnails and unable to change properly and cause your system to generate error, then you've found the source.

i'm guessing the this equipment which you're using to open the document is experiencing the priority, no longer your laptop. yet i choose greater info, as an occasion folder call and if the folder is placed on your annoying force, a community force, and so on. Does the folder open if there is the rest open? per danger your processor can in trouble-free terms manage one or 2 applications at a time. yet another element to look at is RAM. With 80 gigs of annoying force i assume you have 1GB of RAM bare minimum. FYI, annoying force area available has no longer something to do with folders getting opened and seen. Low processor velocity, inadequate RAM and memory-extensive applications are often the culprits for issues like yours.

One of the following actions should fix this problem:

Virus Scan:

1. Go to www.housecall.trendmicro.com

2. Perform the online virus scan... its free.

Corrupted hard drive:

1. Click start

2. Right click on My Computer

3. select properties from the resulting menu

4. select the tools tab at the top of the window that opens up

5. Select the button in the "Error-Checking" heading

6. Run the tool and allow it to attempt to fix errors.

If neither of these work, try to move the file to a backup location, delete, and reinstall.

It sounds to me like there might be a virus of some sort. First of all, disable Dr. Watson and try and open it. Second of all, if you have anti-virus scan that folder and see if it's infected. If you don't have anti-virus then please get it. Most Internet Service Providers offer free anti-virus with their internet. Comcast has an excellent Mcafee suite. If all else fails, boot into dos mode and try copying the files to another folder and see what happens. If you need more assistance post it here please.

A good registry cleaner I use is CCleaner. It's a reliable tool to get rid of worms, trojams, malwares and viruses that affect your pc performances. Free download here http://bitly.com/UrAQM6

They are most likely corrupted. Or a bug is attached from there. If I was you I would remove that whole folder off my hard drive. I think a bug might be attached. That happend to my friend and he scanned it and found a bug.
