Removing Internet Explorer Icon from Desktop?
?

I do not want to remove/uninstall IE, i just don't want it on my desktop, I don't use it as my default browser but i still want to hang on to it just in case. When i right click the icon there is no "delete shortcut" button, If i delete the icon, it deletes the program and moves it to the recycle bin then i go to select IE from my start menu and it says the program has been removed.. How can i remove just the icon? I'm using windows Vista by the way.

When you have deleted that shortcut, the Internet Explorer from the Start menu whose path refers to the desktop is not able to find it as you have deleted it. You can still access Internet Explorer by going Program Files. Open Internet Explorer Folder and double click on Internet Explorer.

Try this:

1. Right-click an empty area of the desktop, and then click Personalize.

2. In the left pane, click Change desktop icons.

3. Under Desktop icons, clear the check box for the Internet Explorer icon that you want to remove from the desktop, and then click OK.

To access Internet Explorer, do not use the Start Menu's shortcut. Instead type "iexplore.exe" in the Start menu search box and press Enter.

You send it to the recycle bin, then empty the recycle bin. You can also delete the reference to it in the menus the same way. This only removes the Links, it does not get rid of IE and it can't any way because it is part of the Windows operating system.

Drag it from your desktop right into the recycle bin or recycle bin icon. You are just removing the icon and not explorer. It should still be in your programs menu list.

Right click on a free space on your desktop (not on icons) and select "properties", that will open "Display Properties". Then choose the "Desktop" tab, click on "Customize Desktop", then in the "Desktop icons" field, check the box next to "Internet Explorer". Another way to open "Display Properties": Go to "Control Panel" and double click on "Display" icon. Other suggestions will make an IE shortcut on your desktop, but this will create an icon without a shortcut mark on your desktop. Good Luck.
