My computer currently runs on Windows XP with Service Pack 2.
I intend to download Service Pack 3.

My sole reason for doing so would be so that I can then download
the following software from Microsoft's webpage
http://www.microsoft.com/security/products/mse.aspx:

- Microsoft Security Essentials,
- free PC safety scan for Windows XP,
- Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool

(It is necessary to to download SP3 if I wish to
download these free tools from Microsoft.)

Does anybody see a downside to downloading SP3 here?

I have no intension to pay money for an upgrade to 'Vista' or 'Windows 7'.
Thanks.

Service Pack 3 came out several years ago....just go up to Microsoft Download Center and get it....you will need the important KB Security updates on your computer and be up with the latest security issues with xp.....and the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal tool updates every month...

desire carry close is sweet, it is been pulled from homestead windows updates for now as has SP1 for Vista too. some very last minute complications discovered. that's in spite of the undeniable fact that nevertheless available on the downloads centre yet you've complications once you position in it in case your computing device occurs to have the incompatibility. i ought to point you wait for it to come back in with the help of homestead windows updates as then you definitely comprehend your computing device is waiting for it because it receives scanned. The Downloads Centre does no longer test your computing device to work out even if that's waiting for SP3.
