Antivirus software = good.

Clicking any "opt-out" links in porn spam email = usually a bad idea.

If you and others in your group of relatives and friends are receiving these same spam emails, there is a good chance that at least one person in your group has got a virus/trojan/worm on their PC.

Does everybody have antivirus software of some sort installed? Has anybody in the group seen any alerts about viruses being found and quarrantined recently? If so, *that person* may be clean, but they may be able to provide clues as to what virus you are dealing with, and by process of elimination, who among you doesn't need to be too concerned.

Here's a freebie online virus scanner from a reputable vendor:

It's a good place to start for someone who doesn't have any antivirus software installed, or hasn't kept their antivirus software current.

If it reports that it finds something that it can't repair, you can take that information and Google it. Sometimes the major antivirus vendors release specialized "removal" utilities for specific viruses. If you see something like that from McAffee or Symantec (makers of Norton Antivirus) or Trend Micro, I will personally vouch for their integrity. :-)

Finally, if anyone in your group does not have antivirus software installed and needs something, but hates the thought of spending any money on it, a good freebie I recommend is:

Ohyeah, and regarding clicking on the "opt-out" links, in *some* cases it might work, but the sleazy, lowlife spammer who hijacks peoples' computers to send porn emails is not actually going to honor your opt-out request; he's going to use it to verify that he's found a valid email address. Or he's going to lead you to a web site where he will try to install another trojan. There are, indeed, some email advertisers who follow the law and provide functional opt-out procedures, but in my opinion, the potential risk is greater than the reward.

get the following, all are free for a safe surfing experience,

install in SAFE mode with networking ( hit F-8 at boot time ), run them all in SAFE mode

with networking as you'll need it for the updates all the programs below will need.

ANTI VIRAL

AVG (free) http://free.grisoft.com/

FIREWALL

ZoneAlarm http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp

WEB BROWSER - http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox

EMAIL use thunderbird. It has a good built in spam filter and learns when you teach it. http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird

SPYWARE

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

and if you have a wireless router follow these tips,

1. Use WPA encryption (WPA-PSK) it's less crackable then WEP.

2. Make a passphrase that is upper & lower case and has some numbers thrown in there as well, again harder to crack.

some like mAkE1t5eCurE0rel53 and as long as possible.

3. Use MAC access control so only you or authorized PC's can connect (even if you do have encryption turned on)

4. Turn off DHCP use static addresses.

5. Turn off SSID (and change it) unless your card really needs it (some do)

6. Change username/password of access unit front end

7. Ensure you have the usual firewall enabled on your PC.

8. Paranoia rules, turn WLAN off if your not using it :)

one last tip

control panel---administrator tools--services--messenger

right clik on it

stop the service

then disable it

save changes

If you think he is watching at web porn, then verify his browser historical past or set up a snooping software to track his undertaking. But for those who feel you will have a well believe courting with him simply ask (regardless that for those who had that, I doubt he'd be watching at porn on-line at the back of your again). Getting emails like that may be random too. I get unsolicited mail always from matters I under no circumstances appear for. Pharmacy, viagra, Nigerian Gold schemes, and so on.

What happened is you must have went to a chat room where there is lots of advertisments. A person you thought was on the other side of your computer was realy an advertisement. It happend to me before.

I will tell you what to do?

When you get them in your email page go to the bottom of the page and click on the opt-out link. Then just put your Email address to opt-out from any more porn junk. And your Welcome.
