My computer just started telling me I have like 30 something viruses, and idk why. Antivirus 2009 keeps telling me to scan, but I can't pay for any removal systems. Does anyone know how I can get rid of the viruses, if there even are any, without spending any money?

Actually your best bet is to do a fresh install. If that is not possible...

Antivirus is actually a virus trying to trick you into downloading it so it can infect your computer.

Here are my recommendations:

Remember you can only have 1 Antivirus. More than one AV causes problems.

Avira AV

http://www.free-av.com/

or

Avast AV

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

Remember you can ONLY have 1 AV!!!

Avoid an anti-virus called AVG (free version). It is wildly popular but has poor virus detection rates. Since they went PRO they stopped the free virus detection updates so you are left with outdated virus definitions unless you buy it. I wouldn't waste my money on it.

For your Anti-Adware and Anti-Spyware needs...............(use at least 1 anti-spyware, but 2 is OK). Do a scan with it on a regular basis.

SUPERAntiSpyware:

And to help protect your computer from ever getting infected with malware in the first place............ (use them both)

SpywareBlaster helps to immunize your computer again certain selected malware.:

SiteAdvisor warns you when visiting a potentionally malicious web-site:

I also recommend Spybot S&D

Greetings. My name's Sanjay Patel, and I currently hold an honorary Master's degree in the field of Computer Science. I am aware of, and have personal knowledge related to your question. There are computer maintenance businesses which are probably in your area, however they come at the cost of hiring a professional to enter your home. There may also be some local destinations where you can drop off your computer and wait to have a technician look at it. These options can often be costly, and pretty inconvenient. The answer to this question can probably be found doing a little extra research on Google.

A well-running computer can be a hard thing to maintain. From my experience, there is but only One software which is reputable- and consistently reliable for healing sick, slow computers. Reimage™ is a world-renown, easy to use software designed by Forensic scientists and made for the average person. This thing will fix literally just about ANY problem you could possibly be having with your PC. Reimage was recommended to me by a Professor during my 2nd year of Graduate school.

YOU HAVE ANTIVIRUS 2009 or a variant of it; it is a rogue Anti-Spyware/Virus that tries to get you to buy their software and Don’t!

& here is how to remove it

Try Malware Bytes First much faster to use and update

Malwarebytes Anti Malware http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html FREE EDITION (one of the free AV to Remove Antivirus 2009)

Kaspersky AV 2009 http://usa.kaspersky.com/trials/home-users/anti-virus/ 30 day trial

Also, consider turning off System Restore to evict any copies of bad stuff that might be lurking there.

May not be required (Depending on severity & if severe DO NOT) & Once removed do so!

If Fails to remove do it in safe mode here’s how

1. Log out and reboot your machine.

2. When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.

3. Select Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking from the resulting menu.

4. When the login screen comes up, log in as Administrator. By default, Administrator has no password.

5. The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different.

6. When you're finished doing what you need to do, log out and reboot back into normal mode.

Antivirus 2009 is an unwanted program, from the authors of Antivirus 2008 . These applications have resembling interface and "features". After stealth installation, Antivirus 2009 will show tonns of fake spyware\adware detection messages and offers to remove reported threats (after you purchase commercial version). But in real Antivirus 2009 is not a spyware cleaner, it's just an imitation of spyware remover. Antivirus 2009 can also slow your computer and cause system errors and crashes. Remove Antivirus 2009 using manual removal instructions (for advanced users) or removal tool.

My computer shop secret. A Live-CD that has those programs to remove virus, worms, Trojans, key loggers, back-doors, malware and spyware.

Here is the reason: It loads into Memory, everything you do comes from memory, you are not on your hard drive, you are not in the windows environment, therefore windows can't interfere with what you are doing and it won't crash on you.

Currently I am using Dr.Web LiveCD, Avira Anti-Virus LiveCD and, ClamAV LiveCD. A great Utility program to create is the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows. It can do all kind of scans, fix hard drives and reset or change passwords.

Just do a google search for "Free Antivirus Software" and download a few different ones. Not all anti-virus software is created equal, and by using 2 or 3, you'll be sure to clean up as many of your virus problem(s) as possible. I currently use http://free.avg.com

Ok, first, the only other answer worth your time is the very long one... but it's too long and not the best thing to do. Follow these instructions and I guarantee your computer will be fine...

go to http://www.avast.com and download the Avast FREE Home Edition. It's [duh] free and it's an antivirus. You install it, and at the last step it asks to reboot. DON'T do that, choose LATER. Now open Avast, click on the little lightning at the lower left side, update it. NOW reboot. It will scan your whole computer and get rid of all your problems. BTW if you have any USB drives, plug them in before the reboot, they are also infected.
