I've been having a lot of problems with viruses on my computer, and now that I have a new one, I'm looking for the best free virus protection I can get. This might seem dumb, but my parents won't pay for antivirus and I have no money.

I'm running a windows XP. If you could help me out by providing me with some details about the program and information about where I can get it. I want it as airtight as possible.

Sorry but there is no free best anti virus. Be glad AVG wouldn't install on your machine. It sux. It's well known for letting Trojans walk right in. If you can't afford it right now you can still get the free 30 day trial of Kaspersky. I've been told that if you can delete all traces of it when the 30 days runs out then you can reload it again for another 30 days. But you have to get it all off of your machine before trying to reload it again. Kaspersky is the best on the market. You will not find any better. I've had close to a year. No infections of any kind.

Avg is the best free antivirus in my opinion. I also use free Spyware Blaster which is a great protection against Spyware. With these two free programs I have not had any security problems or virus infection. I have windows XP too.

I will recommend the following security programs :--

1. Avira antivirus for the viruses issues

2. Malwarebytes for the malwares issues

3. Superantispyware for the spywaers issues.

Please update all these above softwares before start the scanning process.

AVG Free used to be good, but it's bloatware now.

I recommend PC Tool's ThreatFire, combined with Spybot Search & Destroy and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

Windows defender isn't complete anti-virus software, but it is better than nothing.

According to the latest issue of Consumer Reports magazine, they rated Avira the best free anti-virus, http://www.free-av.com

I have used it and it worked fine, but it pops up an ad every few days. I currently use AVG on my 2 computers, http://www.avgfree.com

I have tried AVG, Avast and Avira. But, Avira still my favourite because it has better virus detection rate as compared to AVG and Avast. It also does not slown my PC.

You can download from http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10322935.html?part=dl-10322935&subj=dl&tag=button&cdlPid=11012914
