I found out recently that I had a key logger on my computer.. I'm in the process of getting rid of it.. I'm pretty smart when it comes to computers, but I'm not an expert.. What I want to know is HOW they get onto your computer.. Do you physically have to use someone's computer to put it on, or can it get sent to you like a a virus? Its important for me to know, because if it can only be applied by actually using someone's computer, I have to stop letting people use my computer, and ideally find out who did it..

A key logger could have come in a downloaded file, or could have been intentionally installed. If it doesn't show up on the programs list it probably was simply downloaded with out someones knowledge. If you use lime wire or download items from sites e.g. porn, music, or cool widgets/screen savers than you may have picked it up there.

Someone put a key logger on your computer? It really depends what the program is. Most of the time they are applications that need to be installed by an end user.. meaning someone sitting at the computer installing it.

The scary thing is, these programs can be installed remotely. The only thing is, they would need access to your system in order to do this. So... if you're behind a router, have a wep password (wireless), firewall, as well as administrator passwords... they would need all that sensitive information in order to install the program.

An end user installed it, at the computer or remotely. If you can provide the name of the key logger you found, I could better see about how its installed, reasons why that program would be utilized... and if it has ties to virus/trojan applications.

Hope this helps you.

A key logger is a piece of software, and just like any software, there are numerous ways it can get into your system. It could have been surreptitiously installed with something else you downloaded, it could have been installed by a malicious website exploiting a browser flaw, it could have been installed by some piece of malware or a backdoor.
