well, I've been using Ad-Aware for a few years now and I've upgraded to SE Personal a while ago, about a month ago I couldn't install the updates, does this problem occur to everyone that's using SE personal now? where can I download the updates and if there is an even newer version of Ad-Aware that is FREE please post here. I heard that the problem is coming from IE7, I uninstalled that and went back to IE6 but the problem still remains, I've also tried uninstalling Ad-Aware and reinstalling it back, but it seems that that's not working either, I still have the same cache as when I used Ad-aware before, it's like not even reinstalling it, PLEASE HELP.

Many thanks.

Assuming you mean the monthly definition updates, I'm having the same problem, and I run Firefox, with IE6 on my machine mainly for Microsoft updates.

You can manually download the definitions from here:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/download_and_buy/detection_database/

This will be a zip file containing a single file defs.ref. In the C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Adaware SE Personal directory, there will be two files: defs.ref.old and defs.ref. Delete the .old file, rename the defs.ref file to defs.ref.old and extract the newly downloaded defs.ref (NOT the .zip file) into the directory. This should do it.

I don't know why the automatic web update doesn't work, but it's been kaput on both my machine and my wife's for about a month.

Ad-aware basically is basically just cleaning crap up. Open your browser go to tools, internet options and clean it up yourself. Then turn on the anti-fishing option of IE 7 and keep your system up to date. Worste case run AVG free antivirus and you should be fine unless you like KAZA of other crap like that.
