Question:
How do I get rid of the Security Tool virus?

I run on Windows Vista, and I've already tried downloading Malbyte Malware Remover, SpyHunter, and Spyware Doctor. The latter two didn't work because while I was in Safe Mode With Networking, I wasn't able to access the Internet (it was localized) and so couldn't even install them. Malbyte removed plenty of something... but the Security Tool virus is still active and won't let me run any programs (including Task Manager) - with the odd exception of Firefox.

Any idea of how to get rid of this obnoxious virus?

HERE IS HOW YOU REMOVE

Security Tool and other software from the same family.

start the computer in safe mode with net working.

(see below for how to)

open internet explorer.

click on the Tools menu and then select Internet Options

Now click on the Connections tab

Now click on the Lan Settings button

Under the Proxy Server section,

uncheck the checkbox labeled Use a proxy server for your LAN.

Then press the OK button to close this screen.

Then press the OK button to close the Internet Options screen.

Now that you have disabled the proxy server

you should be able to browse the web again with Internet Explorer.

COME BACK TO HERE (on the infected computer).

the .exe file associations are going to be destroyed so

download this first you will need it later.

Fix .exe : http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/reg/antivirus-vista-2010/FixExe.reg

Now

get malwarebytes here,

this is a direct download link

so you should have no trouble getting it.

click on this link ↓ and then select run.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/affiliates/2-spyware/mbam-setup.exe

INSTALL IT TO YOUR DESKTOP, update it,

then run a full scan and remove everything it finds.

Now run the Fix .exe you downloaded earlier.

Now do this online scan.

to make sure you have nothing else hiding away.

preferably still in safe mode with networking.

Shut down your computer.

Restart and keep tapping the F8 key.

At the Log On screen log on in Safe Mode.

Download the following:

Malwarebytes

Security 360

Microsoft Security Essentials

Advanced SystemCare

Download all and run all. They will kill different aspects of the virus and other garbage on your system.

No single anti-vuris program will get it all so run all of them.

That should kill Security Tool 2010 and anything else in your computer.

Then schedule Microsoft Security Essentials to run at 4 AM every day, assuming you leave your computer on 24 / 7. The others you have to buy to use auto-scheduler function.

Oh yeah, make sure you download all the most recent updates before running the programs.

Security Tool is a fake anti-spyware program. It is a clone of the scam Total Security virus. It detects and states false computer infections and prompts user to buy security tool virus to get rid of these viruses. Do not pay for security tool because it wont remove virus from your computer as security tool is just a fake program.

First thing that you should do to remove Security Tool

1.scan your computer with an Free antispyware scanner.

2.If this doesn't work scan in Safe Mode.

3. Remove detected files from your system.

Ideally you should run a Spyware removal program in Safe Mode.

If you can't access internet open Internet explorer, click Tools and select Internet Options. Select Connections, then click LAN settings, if a Use a proxy server for your LAN is checked, uncheck it and press OK. You may also want to try Hitman Pro. Sometimes it's able to detect infections that other scanners misses. http://www.surfright.nl/en/downloads/
