Internet browsers won't work.?

So, I was on facebook and I opened up a page that I shouldn't have. I am pretty sure the page gave me a virus. So, I turned my computer off and did a system restore on it. That fixed the problems with most everything on the computer. My internet browsers, however, are no longer working. The main browser that I use, Safari, says that "there was a problem connecting with the web proxy server (HTTP)." IE just brings up the normal "cannot connect" message. I have been trying to research all morning as to how to solve this. Any solutions or tips?
P.S.- I'm pretty desperate.

you need to configure them to not use a proxy when using the internet. This should be in settngs|Advanced|Configure network

If you connect to the internet via a broadband router:

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools >> Internet Options >> Connections (tab) >> Lan Settings.

Make sure the ONLY item ticked is "Automatically detect settings".

OK to everything.

If you connect via a USB ADSL modem:

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools >> Internet Options >> Connections (tab)

Highlight any item in the "Dialup and Virtual private network settings" box, and click Settings

Make sure the ONLY item ticked is "Automatically detect settings".

OK.

a couple of tips, some freeware antivirus with real time protection

http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials

and just know that for certain popups that look weird, the only way to stop the virus is to open up task manager and End Process any iexplore.exe

in other words, if you just close the popup like you would just closing any window, you still get the virus.

I just reread your question, you actually picked up a virus on an apple?

attempt Google Chrome, my very own ordinary. distinctive recommendations (see hyperlink) incorporate Opera, Safari and Firefox. Firefox could be particularly stable. All of those are loose, so furnish them a shot and notice what you like.

I think reinstalling the browser again should help.

run http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html and then go to control panel and click network settings and if there are settings in there write them down and erase them and make sure that they are set to automatically detect.
