Question:
I forgot the one and only password to my computer!?

I've been searching for ways for an hour now...

I have a brand new Windows Vista, with windows pre-installed, so I can't uninstall it and get back in that way.

It's not set to boot from a CD and I can't log in to set it to that, so all of the ways involving doing that won't work.

I tried going to safe mode, but it still won't let me in without the password.

I tried pressing f11 while it was booting (I read somewhere about a recovery thing...?) but it only made a horrible ringing noise like an alarm or something.

And there's only the one user, so I can't log in as anyone else.

PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!!!

Would Windows help me if I called? How much would they charge me?

If you can not remember the windows admin password, try to reset it with a reset disk. Free download windows password unlocker from http://www.passwordunlocker.com/products/wpu.html and there is a .iso file included. Burn the .ISO file onto a blank CD which is so-called windows password reset disk. With this disk, you can reset the unknown password without erasing anything

1. Know that if you are still logged on to the Administrator account you can change user profiles using the following steps.

o Go to the green "Start Button" and click "Run" then in the text box type "cmd" without the quotes.

o Type net user then press enter

o Then again type "Net user [Username of the Account]*" then press Enter, without the ["], and quotes. Make sure you spell the username correctly, and you have the '*'

o To change password press enter and after that tieler south * Reset password to what ever you want.

2. Now if you are Logged out of the computer and cannot figure out the password at the start up screen, do the following:

o Restart the computer and toggle the F8 button.

o You will get screen that will ask you if you want to boot with command prompt (that is one way) or boot in safe mode without command prompt.

3. Notice that the computer will boot in safe mode in a small window and you will see a menu that asks which account you want to access. We know that the other accounts you can't get into but there will be a new account called computer administrator.

4. Click computer administrator and go to settings/control panel/user accounts.

5. Remove password.

Unless you can boot from a CD/DVD, you can't really do anything.

Option1: To get the CD boot, try pressing Esc, F1, F2, F4, F5, F6, F8, F9, F10, F11 or F12 ( Depends on the manufacturer, these varies).

Option2:

If none of the above works, you have to remove the hard disk from laptop and connect to another laptop and try boot from CD to remove password. If you can't find another laptop, buy an adapter (2.5" hard disk to USB) and connect it to any computer and you can find some tools to remove passwords (google it) or use Vista recovery CD to restore the OS.

Hopefully one of the above should work.

Changing the boot order of your PC doesn't require you to login.

You can do that from BIOS (usually the line that tells you "Press ____ to enter setup)

You can try pressing DEL key, F2, etc if you have a logo that hides it.

Once in BIOS change your boot order to check your CD first, save, exit.

Put in your Vista DVD (if you bought it from a store you should have one, or at least a recovery DVD)

Follow the prompts from the recovery DVD to reset everything for you.

Once you have vista fixed, you can make a password recovery disk.
