Question:
Okay... like, what internet security should I get?
2008-04-04 11:17:54 UTC
It's so confusing, for every one there is, there's always someone to say it's crap... so which one is best?

I've looked on like loads of review sites and they all say different things...

Everyone usually says AVG but that's just antivirus, I want something more complete...

At the moment I have norton which is crap, so I don't want to get that again, what would you recommend?

Apparently... the best ones are bitdefender, kaspersky, and mcafee... so many to choose from and so many different versions of each one!

But what do YOU say?

Kaspersky Internet Security is by far the best. Stay away from Norton with a 10 foot pole - absolutely the worst.

I have researched all anti-virus products and the best anti-virus protection is Kaspersky. Kaspersky is the best all-round anti-virus program. NOD32 is just as good if not better, it runs faster and has less software conflicts but may be more difficult to use.

Recent tests prove Kaspersky and NOD32 are better than the best sellers Norton and McAfee (av-comparatives.org). Norton is notoriously bloated and takes forever to perform full systems scans.

Trend Micro Antivirus is a viable alternative if you're having a lot of trouble with software conflicts. Trend Micro rounds out the top three. BitDefender is very good as well, but gives a high number of false alarms.

The most popular free anti-virus programs (AVG and Avast) have poor detection rates (82.82%, 87.46% respectively). If you want a free anti-virus Avira has higher detection rates than AVG or Avast! (94.26%).

I have used Norton, McAfee, and AVG, i have found the free version of AVG very good, in fact when i down loaded it, it immediately picked up 3 threats and a trogan horse, which i was able to put into a virus vault and remove from my PC.

I've been using them all for over a year now. They are all compatible with each other and Windows XP and Vista.

You will have a trouble free, clean, green, mean machine.

The only threats that you can experience ARE virus and malware, so AV + Malware or spyware utilities will best help you out. Adaware from Lavasoft and a firewall (a component of any anti-virus software) are you best bets. I would disable the phishing filter and the adult content filters and disable checking on opening and writing of files. The only files that need to be checked rigorously are those that get downloaded to your system from outside sources.

AVG for anti-virus

Comodo Firewall Pro for Firewall

Super Anti-Spyware for Spyware

All free. You can't go wrong with those.

PS Norton is USELESS!! Get rid of it ASAP!

Use AVG, it has never let myself or hundereds of customers down. Then go to Google updater, get the spyware doctor free version. Windows firewall is as good as any, and being inbuilt is very stable and low on resource use.

Well for a COMPLETE internet security i recommend

Firefox web browser

McAfee Siteadivsor firefox plug-in

SUPERantispyware

Ad-aware

avast! Anti-virus

Comodo Free Firewall

Trust me, Firewall and a anti-virus is the most important protections you need, and yes, avast! is free, Home Edition, but it's really good, you wont regret it, the links are below:

Most antivirus program a person does not need. If you get any program that you want to secure stuff with make sure that the program is not made in America. I say this because all American security programs are required to share encryption and methodologies with the US government. This information is passed onto the bad guys and you are screwed. Foreign programs are the best programs out their for security and protection.

i say use avg and zonealarm. then for adware, get superantispyware or adaware or spybot s&d. you can't beat free. most softwares i've found that have the "all in one package" use up too many system resources.

hope this helps.
