Question:
Help with getting rid of pop ups?
2009-08-06 12:44:23 UTC
I keep getting the same pop ups when on the internet (dating sites, criminal justice school, apple products...) and they come when im using normal everyday sites such as facebook or youtube. Ive just started getting them for a day or two now, ive done a full system virus scan, cleared my data and cookies from my web browser, and restarted my computer. I get a pop up maybe every 5 to 10 pages i visit so its not overwhelming, but annoying. I am using Mozilla Firefox for a web browser which has a pop up blocker that is activated and I also have Norton for protection and that pop up blocker is also activated (and i cleared the websites out of the 'exception' box that allows popups from certain sites) any other things i could try to get rid of this problem?

Use a pop up blocker to block it.

or

you can block it manually under the steps.

Step1

Press the Esc key one time. If this does not help, press Ctrl, Alt, and

Delete keys all at the same time. If a programs screen appears, select end task and left click your mouse one time. If another screen appears select end task and left click your mouse one more time. Hopefully your mission is accomplished with this five second procedure.

Step2

If step one worked for you, you'll probably have to do it again each time you connect to the Internet, but only once per visit, until you go into your computer and delete this file that keeps popping up from your computer.

Step3

If the above procedure is working for you, great. However, they may return again as invisible pop ups. When you're computer appears to be stalling for longer than normal, try the above procedure again, to see if the same program screen reappears. (Invisible pop ups are done away with in the same manner).

Step4

If the procedure mentioned above did not help, disconnect from the Internet. Press Start, then control panel, then Internet preferences.

Delete cookies and search history.

Step5

If the above attempts were not enough, delete the user name and use

another one.

Step6

If the above attempts were not enough yet,

your computer is infected spyware.

Scan your Spyware/Adaware

Step 7

If IE pop up,you can manage your IE by using Cleaner tool.

Restart PC in safe mode by gently tapping F-8 key, choosing Safe Mode with Networking. Download, update, run Malwarebytes in Full Scan. When done and restarted out of safe mode, download, update, run SuperAntiSpyware, and A-squared. Next reset IE8, or uninstall IE7 if you use it and Firefox, next download and run ccleaner and the reg-cleaner in ccleaner. Reinstall browsers and install Flash Player. At this point I like to reset the router-modem, or unplug it for a minute and plug it back in. If you still have problems, download, run Combofix, being sure to turn off your AV and firewall, maybe using windows firewall or all hell will break loose if you don't. When you are done just delete the Combofix exe.

You are well ahead of the curve when it comes to helping out your computer, and your information provided helps a lot.

Try malwarebytes to ensure no malware is running, then run another spyware program. Here are two that I use and that are completely 100% free to use, no catches:
