I have a windows xp service pack 2 and its been months that its been like this.

-its usually takes time to boot up
-some services were disabled like theme, making my theme changed back to classic (gray) , DHCP client, making my internet hangs on acquiring network address and sometimes my windows audio got disabled. They've usually disabled themselves everytime I restart my computer even though I enabled the automatic startup on services so I have to enable the services on services.msc everytime it disabled by itself.

-When accessing safe mode , it keeps restarting by itself even though I disabled automatic restart on the system.

Also, recently I have installed Anti-malware malware bytes, Avira anti-virus (free-edition) and Spybot search and destroy. They have found some trojans, malware and etc but my computer is still not on normal state.

Please help me bring back my computer to normal.

Hi Rannie,

You have two oprion. either reinsall OS or you can follow some steps explained below.

Your computer is not patched yet. Microsoft has released XP SP3 in 2008. Your computer still have SP2. First of all you should go to windows update website to download and install SP3. You can open Internet explorer and click on Tools and click on Microsoft update. here you can choose Customs or express. If you are not very good in comuter then use express option otherwise use customs option.

Once it is done. remove unwanted software by using add remove programme. I use AVG and its very good software. its free as well as you can buy licence. I use free version. once it is insalled scan your PC with new AVG software. It will remove virus or any spware from your computer. To speed up your computer you can use disk defrag option. It will make little difference in performance but not huge.

I use FixCleaner. It is really very halpful software. it also comes with windows optimisor. It will make your computer faster. you can check this software here. Its worth pay for this software as i use licence version and found it very helpful.

Having a file on your computer with a virus cannot do any damage unless the virus is able to execute itself. This requires you to actually open the file or run some type of installation of such. I'm not sure what condition your computer is in at this point, but it should be back to normal if the virus wasn't able to infect anything else.

Not one of them pointed out that you're using a dead service pack. Microsoft stopped supporting service pack 2 for over a month now which means any vulnerabilities detected in that service pack will not be patched. Service pack 3 will be supported for another 4 more years.

Your computer is sitting on a time bomb if you don't install service pack 3. I'd wipe the slate clean, which means formatting and clean installing of Windows. Then install the updates and ALL of the service packs.

Yes you more than likely have tons of viruses flooding your computer, especially since startup is affected. I think Staples offers free PC checkup, other than that, download CCleaner and also change try playing with your startup (Take caution on what you remove though) and see which programs affect what. I spent hours doing this once and found out that some services were actualling altering my computer (Virus), but I did eventually put my computer back into a normal and above average state of performance.

I recommend using the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows ( http://www.ubcd4win.com/ ).

1. Use another PC and your Windows XP CD to create the UBCD

2. Boot your sick pc from it and run all of the included bug killers.

3. That should make your PC bootable in Safe Mode.

4. If so, put your XP CD in the drive.

5. Recover all the Windows system files with the command SFC /SCANNOW

If the above steps do not work, it may be time to recover your documents to another drive and reformat.

(Boot from UBCD, connect an external Hard Drive and copy your personal documents off the sick drive.)

Time to Defrag the Registry and Hard drive and clean up the crap on your computer such as uneeded temp files.....

Use this program first >>>http://download.cnet.com/WinUtilities-Free-Edition/3000-18512_4-75021441.html

then use this utility to clean up all the junk on your hard drive....and don't let it scare you ....the first time i ran it....it found 5789 files and 3456 folders that were no longer needed....most of them were the older non-needed security updates that should be deleted..

you can try reformat your computer or maybe you need to replace your ram. Do you get any blue screens?

I say the best thing to do is ask someone to reformat the computer for you. Reformat atleast twice =)

Registry errors or virus infection can do this. Try Reginout for registry problems and AVAST free antivirus and remain tension free 
