Question:
I am being driven crazy by "www.registrycleanerxp.com"& all its invasive other names. Can I stop the popups?

I am using ComCast cable internet, and literally every 10 minutes these "scanpro.com," "Fix64.com," "RegFixit.com," Win32.com, "Clean32.com," "ToFixReg.com" and "msreg.com" messages "pop-up" on my screen irrespective of what I am doing, driving me crazy, (as well as the "registrycleanerxp.com") DEMANDING! that I accept their product OR ELSE! these messages will NEVER END! My "Opera" browser doesn't block them and I'm only on a trial deal with ComCast, so I haven't even asked them about it yet...maybe I should, I suppose. It's entirely discouraging me from even wanting to keep the Internet at all, it's just so annoying, really. Thanks if anyone has a suggestion, other than more expensive software or invasive "scans" by total strangers into my personal life. ******

Do these popups say "Messenger Service" in the title bar?

If so, then you are using an older version or (un-updated) of Windows (pre XP SP2). These type of popups exploit the Messenger Service in your Windows OS, which after XP SP2 is disabled by default.

A popup blocker "thingy" will be of no help in this case.

You do NOT have spyware installed.

You have 3 choices to end the problem.

1. You can disable and stop Messenger Service by typing "services msc." (without the ""s) into your Run Box and then disabling and stopping Messenger Service.

OR

2. You can use the free utility called Shoot The Messenger to automatically disable this unnecessary service.

OR (Best Solution)

3. Update or upgrade your operating system to at least Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).

Please note that Windows Messenger Service is not the same as any Instant Messenger program that you may have on your computer. Disabling it will not cause you to lose any IM functionality that you may have.

BTW, Comcast only provides the internet to you, NO ISP will maintain your computer, that is your responsibility!

Good luck

Well, blaming ComCast or Opera isn't the answer. You have spyware - LOTS of spyware. Until you get good anti-spyware and get rid of this, you will continue to have these "popups" as you call them. Get SpyBot Search & Destroy to safely remove spyware. Best of all, it’s free. After installing it, immunize the computer against over 33,000 known pieces of spyware. Then run a full bot check and remove everything it finds using the Fix Selected Problems tab. Keep it updated and run it weekly to keep your computer free of this stuff. Then get Ad-Aware also from download.com and run it the first time doing a Full System Scan. Thereafter, run a Smart Scan daily.

Keep them both updated and use them often.

RegistryCleanerXP is a security risk registry cleaner, that may generate and show exaggerated reports of serious registry errors on the infected computer. The risk then prompts the user to purchase a commercial version of RegistryCleanerXP in order to fix registry faults. RegistryCleanerXP may be installed by trojan horses, so it is necessary to provide full virus and spyware scan on your computer.
