Question! Is this error message similar to what you are getting?

"When booting up, during the log on screen, I get the following error message;

svchost.exe- Application Error

X- The instruction at"0x7c918fea" refferenced memory at "0x00000010". The memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the program.

Click on cancel to debug."

If it is, just do the following:

For the error at the login screen ( SVCHOST.EXE - Application Error the Instruction at 0x7c918fea referenced memory @ 0x00000010. The memery could not be written ) The solution is as follows:

1. Go to Control Panel

2. Administrative Tools

3. Services

4. Go to the following Service : ( Windows Driver Foundation -

User-mode Driver Framework ) Right Click then choose

Properties > in the start up type choose Disabled.

5. Then reboot the system.

This should do the trick and stop the error from appearing at the login screen. I guess that Windows MediaPlayer 11 is the one responsible for this error.

Hope this helps you.

If this is not your case, then dowload spybot search and destroy and update it then scan your computer. Also, download hijack this to see what is in your system registry. This is the only way I can help you remove if it is a virus.

svchost.exe is not a virus!

"svchost.exe" is a ***completely normal*** part of your operating system!!! It is possible that a virus is pretending to be this program, but if you've reformatted your hard drive which contains the operating system then it's very unlikely to be a virus. However, you can still go through the following just to be sure:

1) turn off System Restore. You do this by going to Accessories..System Tools..System Restore. Turn this off--it's most often not needed and is a place where viruses hide.

2) go to www.grisoft.com and download their AVG anti-virus package. After installation, make sure you have it updated with the most current definitions.

3) I assume you're running Windows XP. Turn off your computer and re-start it in safe mode (which you do by repeatedly pressing either F5 or F8 just after you turn the power back on--you'll get a menu asking you how you want to start up). Once you've booted into safe mode, run the AVG software. This is a *very* aggressive software package and can remove just about anything.

4) Reboot your computer normally. If you're still having problems, continue with the following:

5) Go to

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/progr...

and download HiJackThis. Run the program, which will create a log file. Go to

http://forums.spywareinfo.com/

and post your HiJackThis log. You will get an extremely rapid, very precise answer as to whether or not you still have any infections and, if so, exactly what to do.

6) After everything is all cleaned up I recommend installing SpyBot (it's free; just make sure to keep it updated):

http://www.safer-networking.org/

and SpywareTerminator (also free):

http://www.spywareterminator.com/

Good luck!

You can't run two anti-virus programs at the same time. Most computers only have one hard drive. "all of them" ? What you need to do is run a virus scan, and the delete the virus ! Both Norton and McAfee allow you to do this.

If norton and Mcafee could not detect it and at least provide you with a valid virus name, I have to wonder why you think this is a virus?

There are popup ads that try to tell you that your computer is infected and you must clean it. They do this to get you to purcahse their product which could posibly be a hacking tool you are installing.

SVCHOST.exe is an needed file for your system to run efficiently. If you look in your task manager under the processes running you may see at times several of these files listed. However the one you speak of I have never heard. Check your task manager to see if you see that process running.

Try running the mcafee free scan again and take note of the virus\trojan names if any

the virus you said your virus's name is sccvihost.exe. i think the name is probably scvhost.exe. that is indeed a virus. we often confuse it with svchost.exe which is a generic windows process.

you can try one thing. log into os using safe mode by selecting F8 during booting. use administrator credentials using log-on. then try to delete the files which you associate with virus. because of safe mode and because of administrator rights files should be deleted. if they refuse even then try changing their attributes by selecting properties and then removing read-only option. it may even say "it can't delete the file because it's in use." if that is the case use windows task manager and then try stopping scvhost.exe, not svchost.exe mind you, and then change attributes and then delete.

if none of these methods work, try this.

to get rid of it try something like zone alarm pro or spybot. don't worry it's just another virus.
