If it's like most free anti-virus programs you either only get base level protection, or it will perform scans for you, but it won't allow you to remove/clean infected files. That's why you need to get the premium version.

You downloaded a virus on your computer pretty much. AVG IS THE VIRUS. Some anti-virus softwares do that now. They say "download this its free" then if you dont buy it they will put a virus on your pc. You shouldnt give into them and buy it, thats bull crap. I recommend getting norton 360 its $40 for one pc. Im not sure that even norton will fix it now though. The AVG probaly has some kind of block that will prevent you from even installing norton you might have to run the cd in safe mode.

What you have installed is the free trial version of the full function pay version.

The free version of AVG gives the same protection against viruses and spyware but does not offer the bells and whistles the pay version has.

Go to filehippo.com and you will safely get the free version.

There are 2 free versions. The trial version of the 2010 that runs out and the free to keep version of 2009. Both are crap. Get Kaspersky 2010. It picked up all the problems that AVG misses. My bank closed my Online access down until I got rid of trojans that AVG accepted. Kaspersky got them first sweep and never misses a thing. You get it for 3 computers so if 3 of your friends share the cost it will be a real smart move.

Uninstall it through / Start / All Programs lookfor AVG and use the uninstall application supplied, if there is no uninstall take it out through Start / Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs. Restart your PC. When things are up and running use the link below to download Avast antivirus Free it's way more reliable than AVG and no messing about it's free.
