Major Spyware/Virus problems. This is critical my home computer is down. Please help!?

Question

When I boot up my computer and it goes to the password screen a box pops up with ascii characters. The only thing I can do is click ok. If I hold down ctrl+alt+del it flashes back and forth to the blue "windows is starting up screen". What it does is change my registry and the file associations so I can't open any programs. This happens in safe mode as well because I still have to put in a password. I can see the icons but not the picture that is supposed to be there and I can't click and open anything.. I can do system restore and that will get me in for a minute, but I have to quickly open any program I wanna use. I ran adaware and trendmicro and avast. I clean it but when I reboot the same thing happens and I have to do system restore again to get back into anything. Every says Fdisk and reformat etc. I got a 200 gig HD and don't want to lose everything, I have no way to back my stuff up until I can get another HD. Please any have the same problem or know how to fix it?

If its not the case with u, then try these suggestions one after another !!



If ur System Restore was tunred on, u can try to use this method to try a system restore from command prompt !!

if it produces the same results, then here is a long and hectic procedure available to restore the registry so that we can use System restore to roll back out system to the time when it was working fine !!

If u can get the system back in this way, then great, otherwise u can always do a Repair :)

Hope you didn't have those virus programs installed at the same time!! You can only have one installed at a time otherwise they could conflict with each other and its like having no protection. The same rule goes for firewalls only one. Spyware programs no problem. When you scan for virus turn off system restore

I used Spy Sweeper for the same type of problem. This is the only program that I found o solve my problems, even thn I had to contact the tech help and use some of their downloads. I found them to be very fast with their replies. I recommend this programam. It cost $20 for a year.

Wishkah, You don't need to format your whole hard disk, just format the partition on which operating system is installed. That way you will loose very less data. Try this after your problem is not solved by above solutions.

the safest and most comprehensive way is to first perform a format on your pc (completely empty your hd) and then install Windows again

get avg anti virus and spy bot search & destroy free at pcworld.com or majorgeeks.com and they will find it and clean it for you.
