I have a XP SP3. I got a few viruses and malware and luckily Spybot S&D found what they were and deleted it but I wrote down what they were anyway. I did a search for the viruses and I ended up installing Spy Doctor and Stopzilla. That found more and fixed them. I have McAfee as my main antivirus. After cleaning out as much as I could find with those 4 programs I still have a few problems. Just right now I heard through my speakers "Congratulations you won". Now I'm hear an advertisement for something. Nothing pops up and I don't know where it comes from. I also notice my system is a lot slower. It takes forever for my scanner programs to run. I hear a clicking every so often like when you click something on the net, but it's not me. I also get an prompt saying that IE is not your default browser would you like to make it your default. I get that when I'm not even connected to the net. Sometimes I can't hear anything from my speakers. So I got to Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Advanced and I noticed the Wave slider is all the way low. All this happened Wed. night and I have been trying to fix it since. Something really F'd my sys up. Any help would be great. Thanks.

The sounds from the speakers is malware, not a virus. For IE issue, check the settings, look at the home page address box, make sure there is nothing there but your home page, this is an IE exploit. It works great because IE is a modified Windows Explore embedded with web page coding. Windows Explorer is allowing pop ups to be displayed, when you are not using IE. Get a LiveCD Anti-virus program like DR Web and boot the computer with this and allow it to clean the computer. Windows does not allow scanning programs access to certain files and folders, those who create these irritations know if they put the crap there, you will never find it. The greatest place to put this is actually in the system restore file, so it will always be on the computer. That is why it is important to do the scans outside of the Windows Environment. Throw any thing you want at it, when all else fails, reinstall your Windows to a clean reformatted hard drive.

Ok, it seems to me that you still have malware running loose on your computer. The following is what I would do.

1. Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

2. Download CCleaner from piriform.

http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/

3. Download SUPERAntiSpyware.

http://download.cnet.com/SuperAntiSpyware-Free-Edition/3000-8022_4-10523889.html

All of the software above is free, and Cnet is a safe site.

Install the 3 programs and follow any instructions to update them. Pay close attention when installing so you don't install any new browsers or toolbars. This is just a matter of checking the correct boxes.

Now open CCleaner by double clicking the icon on your desktop. Click Run Cleaner.

Click OK to permanently delete files. ( Its ok, these are just cookies & temporary files )

When the green bar reaches 100%, close the program.

If not already done, disconnect from the internet and disable your resident security programs.

Open Malwarebytes by double clicking the desktop icon. Click Perform full scan. This could take 30 or 40 minutes, so be patient and don't interupt the process.

When the scan is complete, click OK, and then click Show results. Make sure that every entry is selected, and click Remove Selected.

Restart your computer.

Open SuperAntiSpyware from the desktop. Click the scanning control tab. ( Under Preferences )

Under scanner options make sure the following fields are checked.

a) Close browsers before scanning

b) Scan for tracking cookies

c) Terminate memory threats before quarantining

Click the close button to leave the control centre screen.

Click Scan your computer ( Perform complete scan )

Follow the instructions to start the scan

When its done restart your computer and re-enable your antivirus program.

If the above doesn't sort out your problems then go see a tech.

Your problem is with having McAfee as your main virus protection software. McAfee is crap compared to anything else on the market. If you want something quick and easy, uninstall it completely download a trial of AVG Internet Security 2010 or Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. Even Trend Micro Total Security 2010 would do the trick for now.

When you rid your computer of whatever's on there, if it starts running normally without the problems you're having, uninstall it when the trial expires and download the free full version software from Microsoft called Microsoft Security Essentials, it's not the best but if you don't want to shell out $40-80 for good software it's the best you can get for no cost and will prevent further infection from most anything out there.

sorry as they say you have all the stuff on this computer that causes all your problems.

XP 3, spy bot and stopzilla it is only missing the malware and free anti virus to complete all the rubbish.

the only good thing is the mc afee.

it would need a reload with xp 2 and a better version of mc afee.

IE is the latest Micro soft internet browser attached to XP service pack 3.

I strongly recommend you to scan with anti-malware software and scanned with a deep scan method. After that fix the registry by the application of this software tune up in 2010. Clean the registry, defrag the registry and then check your hard drive for damages/errors.
