Why Does iexplore.exe run in my process when I'm Not Running it?

When I opened my task manager (Ctl+Alt+Delete) I seen two iexplore.exe running and I wasn't even on Internet Explore, I was on Google Chrome, So I ended the process and nothing happend, Was somebody spying on me? or is that just windows?

windows updates use internet explorer to check for updates.

so will your anti virus and any other program that checks for updates.

Run Security Task Manager to check your iexplore.exe process ...... I use Firefox so I'm not sure why it was running despite my not using Explorer. ...
