Question:
Which is better identity protection: Lifelock, Debix, or Identity Theft.com?

I have a question about identity protection. I'm looking at joining one of the three main id theft protection companies: Lifelock, Debix, or IdentityTheft.com. I'm interested in knowing (from those who have one of the three companies or have had more than one of them in the past) which is the best company to pay $10 a month to for id security protection: Lifelock, Debix, or Identity Theft.com? Why is this choice better than the other two I have mentioned (for example, what do they offer that the other two don't)? I'm really trying to make an educated and thought-out choice here on who I want to go with for complete identity protection. I would prefer complete protection (meaning ID, credit card, driver's license, social security no., etc.). Thanks and I look forward to your answers.

I have never used any of them, but you can go here and read the reviews from people that have used lifelock.

Lifelock is worthless. It doesn't do anything that you can't do yourself for free. The $1 million guarantee is misleading. If you read it it sounds as if you are covered if your identity is stolen. That's not the case. You are only covered if they fail to do the specific things they say they'll do and your identity gets stolen. There are several lawsuits going on, because of this. Todd Davis knows his service doesn't work, because his ID has been stolen. A federal court recently ruled that the main part of the service is illegal. All of these facts were all over the news. You can google it and see for yourself. It also only covers financial ID Theft, but not the other 4 areas.

Debix is also only financial. Their Identity theft insurance policy is underwritten by AIG and is not available in all areas. It doesn't cover losses due to identity theft only expenses (postage, phone calls) which are minimal and time lost from work. It is a reimbursement policy so if you don't have the money and can't afford to miss work then it really does you no good. You'll also notice that the website says the claims are paid within 12 months. Do you really want to wait that long for your money? If your identity is stolen they don't fix it for you, they simply send you a kit to do it yourself. Debix is nothing more than a credit monitoring service with an insurance policy that may or may not be available to you. They also claim to "stop" indentity theft. That's just a ridiculous statement.

Identitytheft.com uses Debix's monitoring, but just adds some features like the internet surveillance and public records monitoring. They are not clear on exactly what kind of "assistance" you get. What I mean by that is they do not make it clear whether they go in and fix the problem for you or just send you and kit and are there for support like Debix. The way I read it it sounds like the latter.

Identity Theft Shield is much better than all of these. The service is provided by Kroll, one of the world's leading investigative companies, and administered by Pre-Paid Legal Services. It covers all 5 areas of ID Theft. It provides monitoring and when your identity is stolen they assign a licensed investigator to take care of it for you, so you don't have to take time off of work and wait for reimbursement from insurance. The cost is $12.95/month and that includes coverage for your spouse or significant other at no additional charge. An additional $1 a month will cover up to 4 children. If you combine the ID Theft Shield with a Life Events Legal Plan ($17-$26/month) the price drops to $9.95. In many cases an attorney is needed with ID Theft and legal plan provides 24hr access and provides many benefits other than dealing with ID Theft. If you want more info you can email me through my profile, but since you have email disabled on your profile I'll need some way to get the info to you.
