With good anti virus software that is free like Microsoft security essentials, avast free anti virus and AVG it is really less likely people will pay money for a paid product with the availability of these free products. And with some safe surfing online, safe browsing .. along with these free products, aren't they enough ?

In my opinion, free software available are enough for more users. But be careful. A lot of ads online regarding computer security are fake. They will install a spyware or virus on your computer. Microsoft security essentials and windows firewall are pretty good at blocking most of the viruses. Sadly, most paid programs (I.E. Mcafee, Norton) are so blotted that they actually slow your computer down.

Above all, common sense will save your life. If it feels like a bad file, it probably is. If the downloaded application is much smaller or larger than expected. Do not run it.

Back up your important data to an external drive to ensure yourself from a computer crash.

Good luck.

"With Good Antivirus that is free like Microsoft Security Essentials. Avast, and AVG" I can tell you, AVG and Avast are not good antiviruses, trust me.

Avira is the only free antivirus I would recommend, next to BitDefender Free Edition. If they believe their free antivirus is really protecting them, it is not likely they will switch to a paid one, you get what you paid for.

Safe Surfing and Browsing won't do anything, somebody who only goes on 4 sites can get a virus that they got from the internet!

Just remember this, safe browsing and not downloading does NOT mean you are virus free.

Some people want full protection so they will go for paid products such as: BitDefender, Kapersky, and ESET NOD32. Each antivirus has it's downside, no Operating System, no Antivirus, and no browser is perfect, just be smart on what you browse and download.

Yes, they are enough, but not AVG, that has loads of False Positives, don't use it. Avast, is, kinda good, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. The best PC cleaner and antivirus program is PC Health Boost, it's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate.

It's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Download it here for free: http://www.pchealthboost.link

You should never trust an antivirus which is available for free (except MSE) as they just detect it but do not remove the threats. Both Quick Heal and MSE are better options but I have experienced MSE even removing some of the problems or misbhaviour of Windows which can not be termed as virus.

To answer your question, no. The paid anti-virus software also comes with more features, than the free ones. The makers of the free software are not giving you everything you need either, i.e. viruses can also infiltrate java script and other browser add-ons that your free AV software will not catch, but it up to each individual to decide.

The web site below did a free anti-virus software review, and you can check it out.

I've always liked microsoft security essentials when it comes to windows, not as taxing on system resources as things such as norton or avg, plus effective as well. No point in setting up antivirus for macs or linux unless your going to act like an idiot though

Yes they are enough. All my customers and myself use AVG, paid or free depending on whether private or company machines. Either way it never lets us down. MSE is still very shaky, but how can you expect an operating system developer who can't get an OS right in 7 years to make a decent anti-virus. They should leave that to the experts.

Norton is the biggest example as to why paid versions dont always mean better versions. Norton is the worse AV u can possibly install on ur computer( as bad as the free AVG)

There is no BEST antivirus free or paid.

The best way to keep your computer up to date, and free of any malware/spyware/viruses, is to have the best combo of programs: a good antivirus, a good anti malware, and a good disk cleaner.

This is the combo i recommend having and runing once a week.

Download AVAST from

http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10019223.html?tag=mncol;1

On the lest side, click DOWNLOAD NOW. Install, run it-remove found threats.

Download Superantispyware from

http://download.cnet.com/SuperAntiSpyware-Free-Edition/3000-8022_4-10523889.html?tag=mncol;2

Download it,install it, run it. Perform Quick Scan. Once scan is complete, click Show results-check all threats found and click Remove Threats.

(As a small PS- i choose Superantispyware over MBAM(Malwarebytes), simply because MBAM is not what it used to be, and Superantispyware actually cleans up where MBAM failed)

Download Cleaner from

http://download.cnet.com/CCleaner/3000-18512_4-10315544.html?tag=mncol;1

Cleaner is a very useful tool that cleans your computer of temp files, history and cookies. Its also used to fix any registry errors.
