I assume you mean CMOS, not CMUS.

You would have to know what CMOS does in order to know why some people do that. You can even have a BIOS password so that when you start up you need to type in a password to even startup your hard drive to load windows. It's all about security!



CMOS really only controls your hardware and system time.

So if you set a password on it, then no one would be able to reconfigure the hardware through the system. It is dumb for someone to do that, or it could be a mean prank on you! Who was the last person who put this pw on?
