Okay. Well I was playing Warcraft III last night and I noticed my computer was having some lag spikes. I decided to leave it alone until tomorrow.

So when I woke up today, I restarted my computer. After like 5 minutes(wtf) my computer screen finally went black, but the power was still on. I waited for like another 5 minutes until I held down the Power button and manually restarted it. When it rebooted, the computer gave me an error message saying something like, "C:system32:calvin:desktop failed to initialize. Access is denied"

After it gives me that screen, my Windows Theme(the way everything looks) went from a Windows Vista theme to a like Windows '95 theme. Everything looked old-style and I was like wtf. My desktop did not load up and the only thing that showed up on my desktop was my Recycle Bin. I tried to run firefox but it wouldn't load. None of my programs loaded, including the Search engine. I tried to manually run programs using the Task Manager but it didn't work. When I looked at the number of applications I had running, instead of the usual 80, I had like 14 programs running. It gave me a prompt to look for a solution to some problems and that's when I saw like 180 programs that failed to run.

I don't know what is causing this. I've restored my computer 3 times, and I finally got some stuff to work, but a lot of programs are not running. I'm currently scanning my computer with AVG and Spybot and I am waiting. My desktop is still unloaded and I can barely run any programs.

System restore does not work and I do not want to take it to the shop or wipe the memory, unless it is the ONLY solution possible.

Is there any way to fix it? I've been having this problem lately but I usually just restarted my computer or system restored it and it fixed it.

I'm guessing it's some sort of virus on my computer.

It probably is a virus. Your computer restarted in Safe Mode, which is why only 14 process are running (the critical processes). It sounds like your computer is really beyond the point of fixing over forums like these.

My recommendation is to backup all documents, music files, etc. on the hard drive. Then, if you want to, have someone take a look at it, and see if it's worth fixing. Otherwise, you'll probably have to reinstall Windows.

I do know in later versions there is a way to transfer programs with the Easy Transfer Wizard. I'm not too sure about this, but try some google searches on Easy Transfer Wizard and transferring programs. If you're successful, you'll be able to salvage your programs, too.

there may be file association errors or dll and registry corruption in your pc making the programs to malfunction. conduct scan with the intel software partner, reginout along with the scan for antiviruses.
