If you suspect that your computer is infected with a computer virus or other malicioius file or program, I would suggest that you run both an antivirus scan, as well as an antispyware or antimalware scan.

If you need a free antivirus program, I would recommend that you try using Microsoft Security Essentials, which can be downloaded from the link below.

I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials for a while now and haven't really had any problems with it.

If you need a free antimalware program, perhaps you should try using MalwareBytes, which can be downloaded from the link below.

Just so you know, I would not suggest that you have more than one antivirus program installed on your computer at the same time, as they may end up conflicting with each other. However, it is alright to have both an antivirus program and and antispyware or antimalware program installed at the same time.

Also, perhaps you should try using Mozilla FireFox or Google Chrome, which are both free browsers that are safer than Internet Explorer and can also be customized with a variety of free add-ons and themes.

Good luck and I hope I helped you!

I would make sure I have a GOOD (not all antiviruses are the same) Antivirus and I would run Malwarebytes (See below for a link) in safe mode.

Good Luck

These are a few tips to help secure your computer at least somewhat ... .I am not saying non of these programs do not have false-alarms or you'll be 100% protected all the time.. These are just a few tips.

Anti-viruses -

There are many different review sites and many different opinions... I recently saw in a recent (December 2010) PCWorld Magazine a rating of free antiviruses ... I have to say I think its pretty accurate ... Not sure if they rated AVG... but if it was (the ratings were 1 to 5 ... best to worst) than AVG would be #6 (in other-wards, not even on the list)

1) Avast - ( http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download ) (Feb 11, 2010 Update to Avast Comment) I always saw potential with Avast, not counting that for the most part (other then perhaps one type of virus ... Avira rates better) Avast rates #1 when it comes to the free scanners and rates higher then MANY shareware scanners (anything not free) ..

After Reinstalling Avast on my older system (5.0.x of Avast), I NO LONGER noticed the significant slowdown I did before ...Compared to Avira, it still lags the system EVER SO SLIGHLTY, but that may be, me being picky

2) Avira - ( http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus ) This is what I have on my old laptop and what I had (Trying Avast on my new Toshiba ATM) on my new PC before trying Avast.... I love Avira and even if I am using Avast ... I still recommend Avira 100% ... Detection only slightly behind Avast ... they deducted "points" for the fact they like Avast's Interface better. If I am installing an Antivirus on a system that may not have the largest amount of memory or it may have an older processor .... I choice (just my opinion) to install Avira on it. Even my older system (XP, 768MB Ram, 1.79GHz Processor), has NO slowdown at all with Avira and it's great protection.

Malware/Spyware related -

MalwareBytes ( http://www.malwarebytes.org/ )

For badly infected computers some more options may be Combofix ( http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix) which I have seen first hand help computers that were badly infected

Hi im a qualified Computer Technician, I read your question and my answer is this, when you click on a website and a popup comes up saying its scanning your harddrive its merely a hoax, it will ask you to download cc cleaner or something similar, DONT download anything as its just what we call a phishing page. This page contains nothing but cookie spyware. I reccomend updating your windows for security patches/fixes and also updating your latest anti-virus software. Also maybe look at investing in either a free or a purchasable anti-rootkit sowtware, this will stop any attack from inside out. It seems that maybe the website you are using has a spyware popup. Try to disable popups in your internet explorer options

Hope this helps, updates are critical for security reasons.

The best rationale a Mac is greater than a PC is the working process. The mac-os is certainly awesome in protection and interfacing. Mac is awesome considering they have got greater peripherals. Their keyboards and displays are undeniably greater. Simpler to make use of, extra fashionable to seem at, and durable adequate to final. Mac is greater considering they inlcude a well kit. PC dealers on the whole provide a low finish kit. It would have a well processor, however the video is crap, or a well video, however low on ram, or something. Mac sells programs that have compatibility in combination and would possibly not go away you wishing you'll constructed your possess.
